Cheapest netbooks discussion

I finally bought the Acer Aspire D260A. It is a present for a young student. It came in pink and lilac, with a slip and optical mouse for £230. Not my colour but I am sure the young lady will love it. It is £10 cheaper in black or silver.
It was bought from Argos.
Merry Christmas,

looks like a good buy - these ones have a 1.3 MP webcam in contrast to most netbooks that have 0.3 MP ones.0

There is a good review of the best ones compared on the Gadget show website, only a few weeks old, hope thats useful0

There's also a useful summing up here, listed in order of weight:

What I noticed on a visit to PC World a few days ago was: All netbooks have the batteries at the rear removed, so when you pick up the tethered netbook, it feels much lighter than the real thing will in use!0 -
Can anyone advice me on a cheap travel netbook or do you know of any good deals at the moment?
I'm going travelling for four months and want to write a travel blog and upload pictures. It has to be cheap as possible while still being fast enough for basic taks like internet/uploading photos. Need to be able to plug digicam in.
Ideally quite a bit under £200. Thanks!0 -
£200 is rock bottom simply due to the cost of the components. Argos claims to offer some at £189 and up, unfortunately you can waste time on the Argos site as most listed netbooks are out of stock when you do the stock check.0

thanks.
Not even in sales though? I read on here that someone got one for about £150 but dont know how good that was. I just want to be able to use internet securely really ( i dont trust internet cafes when travelling not to be reading my bank details etc using keystrok loggers)0 -
You can drive the price down a bit if you can find a netbook manufacturer that does not bundle in Windows but puts Linux in instead. This will tend to be a lesser known brand without the design nous to make good low power consumption netbooks in my opinion.
A chorus of people will tell you that Linux-only is a good thing anyway. It would not suit me as I like to use a lot of little Freeware and some paid for programs that only run on Windows, and even things like banking security dongles may not work with Linux.
Oh, and the sales? Shops getting rid of things that will not sell otherwise. This does not include quality netbooks.0 -
What are the latest deals on netbooks?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

I got a great deal from Asda. I got my netbook - a Samsung N145 Plus for just £189. Plus I got a laptop bag and 1 year's worth of protection for free with it!
The laptop bag I wouldn't have thought of buying myself, but it is very handy and I actually use it all the time!!
I sold the 1 year's worth of antivirus on eBay for around £5, because the laptop came loaded with a free temporary antivirus, and since then I have downloaded a permanent temporary one from Avast!.
I got the laptop delivered to my local Asda for free.
It comes with Windows 7 Start Edition, and as far as I can see (after having it 5 months) it is a perfect runner and has everything I need on it for studying, browsing, watching skateboarding cats, online gaming, etc.
