I plan to buy a netbook in the new year for travel. Already noticed that anything with the more secure and future proof Windows 7 usually only has Windows 7 'starter' edition. Apparently you can only open 3 or 5 programs with this - true? If so that's hopeless.
Also for travel, experience has shown that I need an Ethernet socket (I go to places where WiFi is only available 50% of the time, the rest is an Ethernet plug).. Plus want a camera built in. Will watch this thread for ideas!
[OK, done the research and it looks like the 3 programs restriction for W7 has been lifted. And the D225 for instance has Ethernet + Webcam. Looking better]

If you need to do more research then consider making a query on the Techie Stuff board, or try AVForums.0
-
um, which board could be more informative than this one?0

No, my point is you'll get a better response on other places as most people viewing this thread will be looking for mini/netbook deals and may not necessarily be techie minded people.
I'm not exactly techie either as I'm more of a spotter, though I'll try not to post crap minis/netbooks if I can help it. If it hasn't got good reviews, etc, I'll usually avoid posting it. Otherwise I’m fairly clueless [to a degree].0 -

Think I am decided on the Acer or the ASUS but not sure which to choose. ASUS has the longer battery life (6 cell battery) whereas Acer only has a 3 cell. But, acer seems the better make.
Hmm what should I choose...0 -
The 6 cell one will be appreciably heavier. So choose that for long train journeys or the 3 cell one to sling into a bag for light use.0

Thanks Buglawton I will probably go for the 3 cell one as it will be for taking around with me and also for using around the house (when I will easily be able to plug it in to charge).
Just been looking again and I found that John Lewis have the acer in a copper brown colour for £199 with a 2 year guarantee. If they have these in store then I would deffinitly go for that one as the 2 year guarantee would be more than useful!
Just a question though, I want to buy in store if possible and will be going on Thursday to look around but, does anyone know if they have a range of netbooks in store at John Lewis because there doesnt seem to be any option to reserve one which I find strange.
Thanks

Out of stock at JL and I'm not surprised at that price - looks more like teaser than a real item to buy on the JL site.0
