Are the Samsung netbooks the only ones with a decent battery life (5hr +) as that's my main criteria and it seems most of the others only have 3+ hrs?0

An elderly neighour who I do 'IT' support for recently went off and bought one of these off ebay
ASUS EeePC 1000H (XP based)
Think he got it for £175 ish
Refurbs true, but what he got was a very clean machine + 2 year warranty and it compares quite well with our NC10 which we paid considerably more for some time back

Thanks that's helpful to know - it seems the Acer Aspire is around the same price as the NC10 which I was looking at, so now it's just a case of finding the better deal.0

My Dad wants a netbook to put in his shop - to use for emails, web browsing and word processing.
It has to be around the £200 or less mark.
I like the MSI wind from Argos but its out of stock everywhere.
He is not techie so the 2 year warrany is attractive0 -

Sorry to be such an ignoramus but I'm thinking of buying a netbook for my daughter's christmas and would appreciate if anyone could help with the following questions...
I understand a netbook is most unlikely to have the memory capacity to store photos but is it possible to view photos on a netbook?
Also can they be used with a dongle thingy (told you I was an ignoramus:o) via a mobile phone?
Thanks in advance,

The majority on netbooks these days come with 160GB disks which is plenty for storing a fair few photos. There is no problem viewing or editing them either.
The windows based ones are OK for use with mobile BB but the linux based ones may require a bit of effort to get going. The Win CE ones are not really netbooks at all and aren't suitable for anything much other than as a paperweight.0 -

I'm curious as to why you say this? These netbooks generally run far quicker and are much more secure if they run Linux rather than one of the Microsoft operating systems. With the Linux versions all the 'drivers' are included for broadband so there shouldn't be any problem. They will also not slow down to a crawl after about 12 months which the Microsoft ones will. The GUI - graphical user interface (window if you like) is highly intuitive on the Linux netbooks but can be enhanced if you wish. Ok, so Linux is different to MS Windows. Accepted, but it does exactly the same job but better, in my oh so very humble opinion.
I have personally used both MS Windows and Linux side by side for the past 13 years now. Both have their shortcomings and both have their good points. Linux was once difficult for beginners to get to grips with, not any more. In fact, I'd say Linux has been better for newcomers for the last 4 to 5 years.
At the end of the day I would suggest that people give Linux a try before they succumb to the bad propoganda surrounding the system. That bad stuff is legacy and mostly long gone. It only now gets to be a brain workout if you start to mess around under the skin. So tell me, how many people can succesfully edit the Windows Registry? I suspect 9 out of 10 people would probably end up with an unusable system and have to totally reinstall Windows. Yet, with Linux it is still difficult to do that similar stuff (there isn't a registry like Windows) but at least it is in human readable form and help is always at hand. Acer Aspire One D250
This model also comes with the N280 processor and can handle up to 2gb of RAM (you usually see them with the N270 and 1gb of RAM). It's widely available in the USA but not over hereAnybody know where they can be bought? I may purchase one next April or May.
