Kaupthing Edge CHAPS Transfer

  • Hi to all with accounts with Kaupthing

Just this morning managed to talk with Kaupthing and ING Direct. Firstly Kaupthing. They have said that all our money is safe and that ING will start processing Chaps transfers today! I have nearly £20000 in the ether floating around. I did a chaps transfer on tuesday night and it's still not in my nominated account even as I write now. (10.00. am) But as mentioned, I did get through to ING as well and they have confirmed to me that my money will be transfered by tuesday of next week at the latest, but hoefully today! There are a lot of ING employees working their socks off at the moment sorting out the back log and apparently we must stay patient. Easier said than done!!!! Also asked ING for a similar statement to be put on their website to ease peoples minds!

Hope this makes things easier for people in the same position as myself! WORRIED!!!!
  • AM I MISSING SOMETHING? (Apart from my £35kin the backlog.)
SURELY NOW CEO ING DIRECT HAS PUT UP A CLEAR STATEMENT ABOUT THESE TRANSFERS HAVE'NT OUR CONCERNS BEEN ADDRESSED FOR NOW?
CHAPS 7/10 RECEIVED 20/10 NAT WEST

  • Yes, think the number of people is about right, but if like me, some feel very foolish for having invested such a huge amount, I would imagine the amount is way above that - seen some posts for £250K and ashamed to say mine is double that - so your average may need to be increased I would think.

That puts the rest of our problems in perspective. I really hope that all those with such large funds above the guarantee level get everything back OK. Our thoughts are with you.

I was aware that there were several depositors way above my estimate, but there are also a few quoted in low thousands, so I if I use £40k as the figure, then I think we could fairly say that there is a minimum of £7 million missing from MSE forum contributors. Conservatively, if that only represents about 25% owed money in the UK, we may be looking at almost £30 million in limbo.

    Any objections?

The official APACS statement is incorrect in this case. The official line was, and still is - ING ARE honouring the transactions and will get things moving today into your linked account. It's official, and business as usual.

    Mike.

Well with all these "official" statements from APAPS, KE and ING - who really can you believe?

Personally, I'll believe it when I see it, if the accounts were frozen, ING aren't going to want to debit millions of pounds.

I don't care either way, as long as my money turns up! :j
  • I think we basically lost count. When I was maintaining the list yesterday, I was adding 3-4 users every 5 minutes. I think the total is well over 500s because we didn't count them all. Average is about £25K

Wow!! OK, I'll pass on that figure which equates to £12.5 million.
  • Quite correct TommyGun. I will also NOT be signing that petition as it has absolutely no credibilty. In fact, I may start a petition against signing that ridiculous petition!!!

that is really silly. So silly that i may start a petition against your petition at having a petition.

Unless you do a poll for an accurate count, I'd say you need to up the average to at least 30K, covering those which will skew the average with 100K+ and those with less than 30. Easily 15 million at a conservative estimate.

There are plenty of wealthy people here who won't declare the full amount, and fair enough.

EDIT - I've added a poll, please visit it here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=14864397

I guess 'The List' is pretty immaterial now, but thought I'd better add my name.
Initiated BACS transfer of £34,000 on friday 3rd (one of the earliest?) before 2pm. Money removed from account on monday 6th. Nothing received in nominated account as yet. I toyed with the idea of using CHAPS but was too mean to fork out the £20! Now worried I'll be at the end of a very long CHAPS queue.
For the record: 57K trapped in ICESAVE. Feel really stupid as husband warned me about Iceland weeks before. Still, managed to get out 30K mid-september, for which I am mightily relieved.
I would also like to add how informative, supportive and amusing (!) this forum has been in some very difficult times.
  • Add me to the list

Chaps transfer done Tuesday (7th) evening around 6pm.

Yesterday (9th) my account shows the money left on the 8th (wednesday).... it didnt.. i checked it late that night....

As of today, 10th, still not in my current account...

Im sure it will all sort itself out :D
