  • It looks like it'll be alright. Check out some of these latest stories, they show people are aware of the problem and give a bit more detail about what's been going on:

  • Could I just offer a vote of thanks to everyone who's helped today in getting all this moving and to a higher profile than it originally had this morning.

Special mention for nomorekids who has agreed to go to London tomorrow for a Channel 4 News interview, and thanks to Victoria Eastwood at ITN for following up.

Thanks to all, and more power to the forum!!
  • Please add me as well.
Thanks to everyone who is doing a lot of great work in trying to figure this awful mess out. Most of my savings are frozen in Icesave, but the other transfer I initiated from Kaupthing Edge on Saturday 5th by BACS has not completed back to my HBOS account. It really is like taking my cash out of the toilet and putting it in the bin.

On a separate issue my girlfriend made a (in hindsight daft) £5k transfer into the icesave savings account that appeared on the 3rd October. It is there but it has not cleared. Anyone else have anything similar?

Yet another example of newbies being misled.

ALL Internet accounts with the KE instant access / term account in the UK were deposited with Thatthing, Singalong & Friedegg.

ALL such accounts were covered up to £50,000 by the FSCS.

ALL such accounts are now with ING Direct and covered up to £75,000 (or whatever the 100,000 Euro exchange might be) by the Dutch financial compensation scheme.

The Fool is reporting that 3,000 postal accounts, not a third of a million Internet accounts, may have a compensation question mark over them.

As to any doubts about ING: no, it isn't going bust. It has too much invested in crap Formula 1 teams and crap Formula 1 race track banners to do that.

I'll give it a month and then transfer my former KE money out of ING into some place where:

    (a) I won't receive the kind of patronising emails I used to get from ING (Hey there! We don't offer you the top rate of interest because we know you'd rather not see your interest rates changing all the time -- I'm paraphrasing, but 1,000s of other MSErs had exactly the same stupid message);

    (b) they aren't so in love with Bernie bloody Ecclestone.

    ;)
  • It was the failure of my BACS transfer which drove me to try a CHAPS. The failure of the CHAPS to materialize has added to my fears that all is not well. Whereas before I only wanted to withdraw a small portion of my money I'm now feeling edgy and thinking about withdrawing it all.

I keep telling myself not to panic but.......

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, especially for you Worrier. I'm sure it will come straight in the end.
  • We will be processing all transfers ASAP

Our payments team are working with Kaupthing to ensure we can get this rolling ASAP.

For the record I dont have to say nice things on here as unlike on the phone im not recorded, I am genuine about ING direct.

If you want more info you can go here: http://www.ingdirect.co.uk/general/faqs/keandhb.asp

ING direct is working as hard as it can to sort out the issues, as you can imagine we now technically have 200,000 accounts just from Kaupthing edge and heritable bank to deal with, thats without counting our own 1.2 million savers.

Rest assured though all transfers will definatly be made ASAP, and I can confirm you WILL be getting interest on your savings at the same rate as your normally would.

    hi ValleyCommando,

thanks for this heads up - customer services always say nice things though... ;-) i dont know if you've read the whole article but can you confirm that all chaps/bacs transfers out have been on hold since the weekend?

the problem is with various conflicting stories coming out we dont know what's going on. some have been told that ING or Kaupthing are working through the backlog - this suggests that some of the early chaps transfers cleared yesterday should have started showing up in recipient accounts... they ain't.

since im on a roll - could you also confirm that the actual job of releasing these transfers will start tommorrow? and by the end of play some people will see the chaps transfer.

Please also add me to list. did a CHAPS transfer on Wednesday, got charged £20 (left £21 in the account, balance now shows £1) but still no sign of the cash in my linked account.

I would advise not to attempt to move any money now, wait until things have settled down.

And once you get your money back (ING will fix it, failing that there is no way the government will let people lose their savings) please do not put all your eggs in one basket! Split your savings amongst multiple accounts if necessary.

The Worrier, I feel for you. Make sure you get print outs or screen shots of your online account showing all recent transactions, including your recent transfer out. I would also begin immediately to open a series of accounts to put your money in once you get it back. You will need to think about opening multiple accounts to be absolutely safe. I would also advise that with large sums of money you should seek professional advise on how best to invest.

Keep up the good work everyone!
