• Please try not to worry everyone.
Don't presume that you have lost your savings, there is no indication of that as yet.
There is just a backlog they need to get through and I'm sure someone on the evergrowing list will get their money into their account soon which will be a relief to everyone concerned
Once again, put the kettle on and why not have some crumpets to go with it!!
Ben

PS So if i'd have left my money and not transferred it, would i be seeing it in my account now? There is some kind of awful irony in the fact that people thought there money would be safe by withdrawing it, whereas people who weren't as on the ball as we MSEs are, seem to be ok with no problems?!
Savings as of April 2023 Savings account - £26460.50(14474.88)Current account - £2140.24(4576.79)Total - £28600.74(19051.67) £1010 (£65pm CS/BS) £250 CS/BS/JS
• True....clearly the money isn't just going to disappear....we'll just have to sit tight and wait a few days ...not ideal , but not much we can do about it !
• What did I mean by silly?
I meant lengthy threads with very long lists and posters continually adding their anectdotes re being in limbo clogging up the forum.

It was clear after the first few posts this morning what was going on. We don't need more people adding 'me too'.

We need useful facts. The later posts are better ie relaying phone conversations. A bit more factual.

I won't agree with you on this one. There are hundreds of users in same position. Having one thread and a list has helped to contain all of them in a single thread. If this doesn't exist then new thread could keep popping up and that will not help at all. Do you think I don't have other important work to do? I'm maintaining the list and every 5 minutes and trust me every 5 minutes there is atleast 3-4 members being added to the list. It is not easy and its time consuming. I know once we all get our money back there won't be a need to maintain a list but it helps us all feel better. That is important.

No disrespect to you but if you don't like to be on the list then don't be and ignore this thread.

This can't be legal (i.e. can it be seen as theft on the basis that they have your money and cannot/will not tell you when you can have it back) - anyone on the forum have a professional legal viewpoint to share?

I have 30k in KE and was a little concerned until I heard the ING announcement. The money sounds safe enough for the time being although I am not so sure about the interest.
I will bite the bullet and not make any attempts to move it for now. I will let things calm down a little first, then reevaluate.

KE was always safe... If it wasn't for Icesave and the way it was handled I don't think we would even be sitting here worrying! I personally took my cash out because I need access to it at the end of the month. I didn't want to be in a position whereby the message had changed from "Everything is wonderful here at KE" to "Sorry, we're not processing cash at the moment"

And for those of you who had a dig at me about the pointless long list... I am at work with no radio / TV, I can't be reading all the different news websites to find out whats going on, I just have this open and wait to hear what people have found out. It was very reassuring for Icesave the other day. This list is just full of "add me too"

Personally, I would like to thank those who are emailing and calling the different institutions... keep us posted!

Just heard someone called Tom on Radio 5 Live describing his "surreal" (his words not mine) conversation with KE regarding his non-appearing CHAPS.
The more publicity this gets the better because people from KE and FSCS giving conflicting views is just ridiculous. I think all everyone wants is a definitive statement on the position from someone in authority but how we get that is not obvious.
(Well done Formulaonefan for keeping list going because it gives a clear indication this is a widespread problem.)

Dear sir/madam
I wish to complain about the lack of information about ' missing " money transferred over the last few days out of kaupthing egde accounts by CHAPS and BACS.
these transfers showed as having been effected but money has not reached the recipient accounts well after the expected deadlines.

the KE website invites customers to use it normally, courtesy ING CEO.

Various explanations are being given many contradictory.

CHAPS delays are being blamed but APACS denies any delay.
FSCS is variously saying the money in transit is covered, is covered but not sure by whom, or is not sure whether the money is covered at all! as most transfers were from one FSCS covered account to another FSCS covered account. I find this incredible!

a clear statement on the FSCS ING and KE websites about

whether the accounts are frozen and for how long
where the money is
when it is likely to reappear and where ( KE or linked account)
whether is is covered by the FSCS; if not why not?
who is likely to pay it back

would be most appreciated.

I am on formula one's list. I have written to KE as follows:

"EMAIL TO KAUPTHING EDGE 8.10.2008.
I transferred money from my KE internet savings account by CHAPS to my linked account about 4pm yesterday afternoon. I was expecting it to arrive today (8th October 2008) but it has not(it is now 7.30pm). I would like to know where it is i.e. has it been put through the CHAPS system or is it still sitting with a pile of other CHAPS transfers at KE?
There are a number of others like me in a similar position on the MoneySavingExpert website forum, of course we are very worried as our money appears to have left our accounts but has not arrived in our linked accounts. We should have been informed individually by email or at least by a general announcement on your website what is happening to those of us who have made transfers by CHAPS or BACS over the last few days. This email is sent on behalf of the forum not just for myself and I will naturally publish the reply there. If you do not reply promptly I will tell the forum that too."

It might be useful if all of us in this situation emailed KE and then confirm we have done so to this forum. I was thinking of writing to ING as well, so they are aware, the FSCS as well, perhaps they can direct me to the administrators so that we can get some information individually as to what is going on. KE have had our money and ING will have it, surely we are owed information at this stressful time?

I wrote a similar email yesterday afternoon at 5.25pm and have not yet had a response.

KE Savers – We all need to bring some more focus on this crappy situation by complaining outside of this website via;

http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/contactus.aspx

news@sky.com
complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk

I have contacted all of the above and I suggest you do the same. As soon as I hear from any of them I'll let you know.

If anyone can add to this list please do so.

FYI:
ING freefone number 0800 561 8840

KE Use either 01159836332 or 01159836331
