  • I'll be looking at 8am. However...get this....i had a wages cheque pending clearance in the Halifax this morning, it said clearance date 16 Oct, when i logged in at 8:45 it was not available for withdrawal (ie it hadnt cleared), however when i logged back in at about 9:20 it was available (cleared). Maybe BACS is the same, i dunno, do things not get actioned until after 9am opening up time ??!!

I had some money transferred from elsewher into Nationwide via BACS the other day. Came in sometime between 7pm and 7am the next morning.

Has anyone received a Tuesday, October 7th BACS transfer ?

HSBC - who, incidentally, are by far the best of the big clearing banks when it comes to customer service - can't see anything in my pipeline.

    Off to the pub....

Spoke to a very nice man in Customer Relations in ING today who said there are 26000 transactions to go through and they will be sent tomorrow by CHAPS, he assures me that the CHAPS system will be able to cope!!!

Anybody who transferred by telephone are the ones that they are treating as manual transactions and will take a while longer. He said all interest lost will be refunded and CHAPS payments returned.

Hope this helps, lets not hold our breath, I won't believe it until I see the money in my account.

I think one thing we have learned is that there appears to be no system, no absolutely definite way that transactions are carried out, appear in out bank accounts etc. Just general chaos.

No, I won't stay up till midnight because it is just as likely that I will need to check in the morning and, possibly, but hopefully not, again throughout the day. It would not surprise me if CHAPS is used again just like it appeared to be last Friday.

I do know one thing, my dosh will be out of my account faster than lightning, just as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Big plans for the weekend - lots of shopping for me. I used to be a shopping addict but kind of got my act together and saved money instead. Shopping caused me less stress, I have to say. (Well, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it).

I did my BACS transfer after close of business on Monday 6th, so that's probably in the Tuesday 7th batch. First Direct (HSBC) tell me they can't see anyting beyond close of play today, but check tomorrow because if it's going to arrive they'll be able to see it then!
