Here is the message from Nationwide I got yesterday following my request for them to trace my £35000 CHAPs from KE:

    Dear Miss C,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

Please accept my apologies, however due to the problems with Kaupthing Edge at the moment, we are not receiving payments coming into Nationwide from them. I would therefore like to suggest visiting the FSA website (www.FSA.gov.uk) where it has more information on this matter.

Should there be anything further we can help with please don't hesitate to contact our helpdesk on 01793 654027 or alternatively you can reply to this message.

Please contact me if you require further assistance.

    Kind Regards

    SO REASSURING!

Sounds to me like they've got the wrong end of the stick, anyway. Payments will be coming from ING, not Kaupthing. Think they're mixing up KE with the non-internet KSF, who people will have to claim through the FSCS. Silly Nationwide...
  • I'm beginning to think that Nationwide (who I've been with for about 30 years), may not be figuring too highly in my future investment plans.
  • I have emailed Nationwide to tell them what I thnk of their service and comparing it unfavourably to the service of HSBC as described earlier by another poster. I will advise of their reply. I also asked why I was expected to wait as long as five days for a reply - it wasn't that long ago that we got a brilliant same day reply service from Nationwide. Despite all the savers' money they are hoarding, they obviously can't be bothered to pay for the staff to provide a proper service any more.
  • I have told them I will be posting their reply on this forum too.
  • One positive thing to come out of this KE thread is what we are learning about other people's banks, which may be better than ours so far as service is concerned.

so to summarise if possible - no one who initiated CHAPS from their KE account has had confirmation from their bank that a payment will be in tomorrow?

PS love the humour - keeping me sane :D

Do you think Nationwide just meant that like all other banks they haven't had any of our money through this week - so actually no bank has been receiving payments from them recently.

Finger's crossed - lets see what tomorrow brings - hopefully we'll find our Nationwide accounts with our repayments in tomorrow :)

Oh I did read that the originating bank has to put in place th trace not the receiving one so also this is maybe why they couldn't help :)

I was told by Halifax that only clearing banks could see what would be coming into their customers accounts the next day. Halifax are not a clearing bank. Therefore could not help me.
Just like to thank those of you who have kept my spirits up.
  • I thought it was now Halifax Bank of Scotland, and that is a clearing bank.

I thought all banks could if they had the transaction ID, but again Halifax is an upgraded building society(no offence meant here) so may not have the facilities of the old high street banks.
