I made a BACS transfer from KE to HSBC on Tuesday 7th.

HSBC informed me today that they have received notification that the funds will be credited to my account tomorrow.

    Fingers (still) crossed.

How did they inform you? Did you call them or did they email you? Only reason I ask is I have someone from HSBC who is supposed to be informing me as soon as anything appears. Heard nothing yet.

I initiated a CHAPS payment on the 7th to Cahoot.

Haven't got a clue what is happening as Cahoot's online system is down for the second day and no backups/disaster recovery to work from.

Does anyone get the impression that the whole banking system needs a serious rethink ?

Right at this moment, I think the bandits should be lined up and shot. If my money arrives tomorrow, I’ll downgrade that to a flogging.

Absolutely right, the whole financial system needs rethinking. I’m all for a free trade economy but it should be done within certain rules that include openness and honesty.

The main culprits here are the people who are paid massive amounts of money to guarantee insurances, loans and credit and when it came to the crunch, they didn’t have the money they pretended they had, despite being very well paid for it. They’ll walk away laughing all the way to the (pardon the swear word) bank.

Are these going to be the manual payments that will take 'slightly longer'?
Not sure if this is the same product but i have a fixed term deposit which phoned KE and broke last thu 9 , rang KE this am and was told fixed deposits will NOT be paid tomorrow and no timescale for settlement yet

i've just had a conversation with myself... im still none the wiser :-/

Embark not upon that path, for therein truly lies the road to madness....

    Ahhh, too late already!
The 'Mad' refers to my state of mind, not my degree of anger.... (still crazy after all these years)
  • Look, there's a pattern emerging here.
People that initiated BACS payments are being told by their receiving banks that there IS something on the way.

People that initiated CHAPS (inlcuding myself) are still in the dark (and will remain so until the money hits their accounts).

This is entirely consistent with my understanding of how these two types of transfer work.

I am pretty confident now that the vast majority of people will be happy tomorrow. Those that had easy access savings accounts that is.
  • I have just spoken to First Direct who have confirmed that the £24,000 I transferred on 9th by BACS will be in my account tomorrow.

I am very grateful to this thread as I have not read it before and have been checking my bank account constantly and it is only having read that the bank will know a couple of days in advance when a transfer is coming through that made me ring them, as I assumed that they didn't know until the day it arrived.

So thank you very much, as I can now stop endlessly checking.

excellent news! i gotta say it's looking up today :)
Are you still talking to yourself, or with us now?
  • Spoken to First Direct (HSBC) - nothing showing for me yet - Nice lady (as usual at FD) says that incoming funds can show up at any time of day so call back this afternoon.

    Original transaction
CHAPS Tues 7th late evening so probably counts as Wed 8th

I wondered why people crossed the road from me. I think I am already that old guy.

Not so I'm afraid. I requested a BACS transfer on 7th Oct (evening) and have been told by my bank that there is nothing in pipeline.
