  • Good luck with that. Chasing the best interest rate with a bank on a small Island that actually produces nothing but imaginary profits is what got us all on this forum in the first place. So what if there's a "guarantee" from the UK government. Do you really want to have to fight to get your 24k back if it comes to it for a marginal 100 in interest? I wouldn't

Its HBOS, Halifax and Bank of Scotland combined! Unimaginable for it to be allowed to go under. I know its share price has tumbled, but that is only temporary, maybe in about 5 years when all this is blown over, it will remain a solid institution.

got email part deux! (does this mean i'm still in the gang?)

probably means nothing but im kinda thinking that anything of any interest to the clan should be recorded for posterity. i wonder if we'll have descendants reading our postings in some far off distant future... im sure it will all be stored somewhere

*make mental note to advise any offspring that i was known online as LuKeNuKuM*
In years to come, this forum will be studied by psychologists, school chidren etc when they will attempt to learn how stupid we were in the way we conducted the economy and banking.

i reckon you're right - it would be quite an interesting study because we've all been thrown together into a very stressful situation - our thoughts typed up would probably provide good fodder for anyone looking for a 'real-world' case of financial worry!

I dont think we'd have to fight if we had not made the withdrawal from Kaupthing. The reason we are here is that our withdrawals happened just before the problem blew up, and our accounts show money went out, but the money has not been deposited in our linked accounts. This introduced an element of uncertainty, and someone pronounced at the begginning of the forum that money that was in transit (ours that is), is not covered by the FSCS. I would be happy to see it restored to my Kaupthing (now ING) account, but ING for reasons known only to themselves, want to forward it. That being the case, I have no option but to stay stressed till it appears in my account.

I too have just received the e-mail, well not sure when it came in, as I've only just logged in again.

There is no point in stressing, it cannot, and will not affect the outcome.

ING have confirmed they will try and sort out most payments by Friday, so there is little point is worrying more until that point in time.

No one is going to lose their capital, one way or another it'll be reunited. We may lose a bit of interest, but honestly, with some people's life savings at stake, I'm personally not going to get upset about it. It could have been a whole lot worse.
