Kaupthing Edge CHAPS Transfer

Forgive me not reading the 111 pages to check if this has been covered before, but...
Has anyone explored the idea with ING of them just cancelling our CHAPS payment and putting the money back how it was?
I for one would be quite happy with this. Had I known about the ING takeover, I wouldn't have withdrawn the money in the first place!
The real worry for me is that the money is currently nowhere to be seen, but to see it in my KE account again would be a major improvement. Maybe this would be easier for ING to push through? From their perspective, they'd keep a customer with lots of money in the account rather than just inherit an empty account from KE.
Just a thought.
Unless its a no-go, I might try calling them tomorrow to see if that's a possibility.
Its not possible to cancel a CHAPS transfer... a few people have mentioned your idea earlier in the thread, I too would be more than happy with this outcome, but its not on the table.0 -

Wiggy’s on CH4 right now.
Shows how hard up they are. Looks like he’s broadcasting from a pub.

Just received confirmation email advising payments to be made on 17.10. Assume everyone will get one.0

Just wondering, if you make a bacs transfer out, should you be able to see the money taken out of your account instantly as my statement still reads the same?0

I would prefer to see mine back in my KE account but, to be honest, I can’t ever see me banking overseas again, so it wouldn’t be there for long.
My money was with the Halifax, until they started to wobble, 3 week ago. I still have some accounts with them and it’s business as usual. :doh:0 -
I think that it's beyond the call of duty that ING will pay interest on peoples' balances since the time the transfer was made. If we are all honest with ourselves, interest was the LAST thing on our minds as we all scrambled to get money out of KE.
Also, by definition, we gave up the right to any interest the day we made the transfer (in the case of CHAPS) and I'll bet that 99% of the transfers were heading for current accounts that paid close to 0% while people set up other savings accounts or withdrew the cash and put it under the bed. Under the circumstances ING could have said "you can spin for the interest" and we would all be relieved to get our principal cash back. If ING checked the accounts the money was heading TO, I bet the aggregate interest was peanuts compared with the 6.5% KE rate or whatever it was.
I have been on this thread from early on and have been through the roller coaster of panic/relief/panic that we have all suffered. Still, I have no time for those that have come on here and whined about lost interest. Get over it and be grateful you were protected by the Government for the principal. Look on it as an act of extreme goodwill on the part of ING that they'll cover the interest. Same goes for whiners about CHAPS fees.
We are all lucky that we'll get our money back and those that had more than 50k at risk are extremely lucky to get the excess back.
And, no I don't work for ING and most likely won't bank with them in the future but this whole sorry saga would be a lot worse without their intervention, despite the somnewhat poor communications on their part.
By way of light relief, check out this link and try not to laugh too loud.
