    first problem

chickens are no longer 3 for £10 sahme as they were 1.5kg so i could easily get 3 meals from one.

West Country Fresh Medium Chicken £2.89 per kilo 1.4 -1.79 or
Market value 1.3kg £2.46 not sure how good this would be quite a small chicken.
I'm sure isaw an end that said £3.50ish which wouldn't be too bad only 50p more than 3 for £10.

    Help!!!!!!!
    Kind Regards

Hi mumof4 - your food show booking - I take it this is via Clubcard deals is it? Haven't booked ours yet so I shall have to investigate this! *EDIT* Jut looked for and found this deal - thank you so much for alerting us to it as we had no idea it was on there! You've just saved us lots on something we would have done anyway!

Good luck with your shopping! If you fancy spending substantially less for your tea bags, and can stretch to a cash purchase, Sainsburys Basics 80 Fairtrade bags are only 28p and are more than acceptable (even to a tea-fusspot like me!) - I'd buy them again for definite and they are a fraction of the cost of the Tesco standard red ones.

Yes, go to shows, i think it was anyway, pick the date you want and then pay it's £5 in vouchers for each ticket. Which you'll get back what with all the coupons and samples that they normally have. Plus if you like cooking and kitchen stuff it's a good day out. I book my MIL a ticket too.

I might look into them as I think i might buy less teabags. You never know i might get some teabag coupons. Last year i picked up 50 x 40p off a tea brand and then a few months later they went on BOGOF so they were £1.49 for 80 but i gave three coupons and only paid 29p.

Yes soup, i've still got 100 leeks left and two sacks of spuds so leek and potato soup is going to be on the menu quite a lot. Also got 30+ swede and the first of my parsnips so veg soup too. Never really make the most of my parsnips though don't know many recipes so end up mostly adding them to mash.

Here's a delish recipe that you can use up some of your parsnips and leeks on... it's fab as a side dish with other spicy food and dips. Wish my parsnips would hurry up!

Spicy parsnip and greens bubble & squeak

Serves 4 as main, 8 as a side
    Vegetarian

    Ingredients
    • 800g parsnips , chopped
    • either ½ a savoy cabbage or 300g Brussles sprouts, finely chopped into ribbons
    • 100g leeks (optional), finely chopped into ribbons
    • ½ cup frozen peas
    • juice of ½ a lemon
    • 50g butter
    • 1 de-seeded red chilli , finely chopped
    • 1 tsp tumeric
    • 1 tsp ground cumin
    • 1 tbsp garam masala
    • 1 bunch fresh coriander, roughly chopped
    Method
    • Put the roughly chopped parsnips, turmeric and a pinch of salt into a pan of cold water, bring to the boil, then simmer for about 10 - 12 mins (until they start going mushy). In a separate pan, boil the cabbage or sprouts (and leeks if using) for about 3 mins, until slightly soft, add the peas for the last minute, then drain.
    • Drain the parsnips, then put them back in the pan along with the lemon juice and half of the butter, mash them up a bit, then add all the other ingredients, apart from the remaining butter.
    • Heat the butter in a non-stick frying pan (approx 28cm dia), then tip in the parsnip mixture and firm it down. Cook until lightly browned underneath, then turn over (that’s the trickiest bit – put a plate on top, turn over, then slide back into the pan), cook until browned on the other side, turn again and cook until the underside is slightly crisp, then turn one more time to get both sides crisped. Turn out onto a large plate.
Can be served either hot or cold.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

    ok
something i have noticed is there is nothing for breakfasts and lunches also did you know if you phone the store they will order and reserve your order instore for you so all you have to do is go and pick it up, so you will have everything you need on the first shop stopping you from deviating and spending it on other stuff (if your like this i know i can be)

the milk thing the only thing i can think of is maybe watering it down slightly or possible uht (i dont know milk rules as dd is intolerant)

also beans do you not like the value ones as these are 18p a tin so 40 tins would work out to be £7.20 saving you £4.40 and i will say to me they taste no different then branded beans.

also you dont seem to have a huge variety of meats i know money is tight but won't you get bored of the same meat selction for 6 months also do you have a meal plan of what your going to make as there could be thing that you either dont need or have too much of (just a suggestion)

I would hang onto a few quid of Tesco coupons till after Christmas as often there are some turkeys or chooks that get reduced either on Chritmas eve or Boxing day. I always get the fancy stuffing cheaper the first week of January and it lasts me till around mid summer. This also bulks out food

Have you got a fresh fish counter at your tesco? You may find that it's cheaper buying a couple of salmon & having the fishmonger gut them for you, then cutting into portions for your freezer.....we've had whole salmon for £10 each, giving over 20 shop-size portions.
