Is there a real need to spend £200+ on a map that you can see in car?
Aren't the road signs good enough to get you to where you want to go?
Do you have to plug this tomtom thingymajig into your fag lighter all the time or just to recharge it?
I'm of the opinion that after xmas they will be down to around £100ish.

The unit has a 2/3 hour battery life, so no you dont need the unit plugged into the accessory point.

Certainly, does seem to be a price war at the mo. The prices have been steady over the last few years but TomTom have certainly made a big push in the UK especially with their recent radio ads.

I've had a TomTom for just under a year now and the thought of driving somewhere I did not know using a map and relying on road signs just makes me shudder. It's one of those gadgets that once you have used it you cannot imagine your life without it ;)

As far as I can see Argos have now returned this product to it's original price so this deal is no longer available, well done to all those whom grabbed it!
  • Think PC-World have em for 219.00 Collect @ Store.

    If thats any good.... ;)
  • PCWorld says it got Bluetooth too - has it? Can I connect my phone to it for hands free?

No, the bluetooth links to your phone for Traffic updates using your phone's GPRS (data) capability. Only the Tom Tom 500 and 700 enable you to use the Tom Tom as a handsfree phone device.

Personally I dont think theyre worth the extra, but then thats my opinion.....apparently it doesnt work too well anyway.....

i was going to get the 300 but for 60 less i bought the One and I think its miles better....its thinner and fits easily into a jacket pocket.......crucially the chip is better and it works perfectly on my Peugeot 307xsi which has the problematic (for sat nav anyway) windscreen without the need for an external antenna, unlike the reviews suggest for the 300, 500 and 700 where apparently i would have to pay for an expensive external antenna...mrp 50.00 extra!!!!

one works a treat and is very simple to use...well worth 219

only downsides according to one review was the speaker volume...seemed ok to me though...maybe the reviewer was partially deaf....and it doesnt come with a case or home charger.....big deal...well ive bought them from Tom Tom as no one else is selling cases for the One yet not that i could and people werent selling the home charger for much cheaper...but they are still a hefty 45.00 delivered together

ugh! yesteryear method......is there any point to computers when pen and paper will do.....the world would grind to a halt.....you cant read a map and drive at the same time....try navigating in london with a map when you have some ignorant ill mannered impatient driver on your bumper....not sure where you live but i wouldnt rely on road signs....there is a price war but it wont be £100 just after xmas, so soon after its launch....perhaps next xmas itll be under £150 but doubt if it will be by much

Tom Tom 1 seems pretty good... is there a better satnav system out there, with a larger screen?

    Another favourable review:
    http://www.gpslodge.com/archives/003480.php
The big news is that the TomTom ONE uses the SiRFSTAR III chipset, which is well known for its low power consumption and its high accuracy in the face of weak signals. This is the chipset that Garmin just put into its recently announced Nuvi (see article), and the Garmin Edge, the training GPS for bicyclists (see article).

The TomTom ONE comes with a touchscreen, that has an anti-glare coating, which is a big plus for this unit. The operating system is expected to be the same high quality as the rest of the line with intuitive menus and fairly flexible configurations. Of course it has typical navigation options (fastest, shortest routing), and types of items to avoid (highways, etc), but it also has spoken word turn signals, and speed adaptive volume. Like the rest of the TomTom line, the TomTom ONE comes with integrated Bluetooth which allows you to use your Bluetooth enabled phone to tap into the TomTom Plus services: Weather, traffic and voice downloads.

Like the TomTom GO 300, the TomTom ONE will use and SD card for navigation maps.
