As a biker I just wondered if the TT1 would mount onto a motorbike quite easily...
Perhaps the mount would be placed on the inside of the fairing screen or directly onto the petrol tank...
Also is it "shower" resistant? I'd appreciate any feedback from owners and how appropriate they feel it may be for two wheeled use.
Cheers
Hello, have just purchased the tom tom one for use hopefuly in both a car and on a motorbike.
The only water resistant tom tom is the rider, way over my budget at about £550. The vibration through the bars may be a problem even if you could find a suitable mount.
Supose you could place the tom tom one in the map pocket of a tank bag, I think I will try and carry it in my jacket pocket (assuming it will get a satellite lock) relying on voice directions only via ear phones and see how I get on.
Any other solutions would be good to hear.0 -
Thanks Joseph....
The tank bag is a good idea but even then I find the map pockets on my bike still have a tendency to get wet inside (I have an unfaired 900 Hornet so a tank bag usually gets saturated). The only other concern I would have is if the tank bag magnets would affect (possibly even damage) the TT?
It can't be hard or expensive to make a waterproof sat nav or some kind of waterproof housing for it (digital camera manufacturers make them for camera's)....but then as you are probably well aware being a "leisure activity" motorcyclists always get charged extortionate prices for anything anyway.
Be interested to hear what results you have though mate.
Cheers

Yup thats the one Joseph mentioned... but if it £500 then that is a big premium to pay over the price of the TT1...I'm not convinced the £300 extra is worthwhile either0 -
Dan, good point about potential problem with magnets never thought about that, an alternative would be the MIO 268 they also make an accessory for handle bar mounting at about £12. Had an opportunity to test this unit for a couple of days, had no real comlaints but find the graphics, chipset and ergonomics of the TT1 hard to beat in the price range we are talking about. Work means I have still not been able to test the TT1 carried in jacket but if it does consistently maintain a signal then for me this will be the solution, once you get a feel for the nuances of the voice commands. Best to keep our heads up and concentrate on staying alive than watching a screen on a GPS!!0

The Tom Tom One does enable you to plug in headphones, whilst I find the vocals annoying I can see this working for motorcycles. You are given a count down to manuvoures in yards/metres and it tells you when to turn/stop in te form of "Turn Now/You Have Reached Your Destination". If you have to bear left/right it tells you to stay in certain lanes & handles roundabouts in a similar fashion telling you to take the 1st, 2nd or 3rd exit etc. Yes I can see this working for motorcycles. It would be interesting to hear feed back from motorcyclists whom actually use the system.0
