I've used Carjet last year and found them to be very reasonable.
I am going to Barcelona area last week of May and after checking around, an initial scourging found Auto-Europe to be great value (£135 for a Scenic for a week less 8.5% cashback on Quidco).
However I was astonished to find that Hertz have an offer on at the moment which priced the Scenic at £117.92 plus I've got a £8.00 cashback through Quidco. I think you may have to book before April 20 mind to get the offer, and the rental needs to be 5 days minimum.
You'll also need to enter the discount code which is 652945.
This applies to rentals in Italy also.
I'm quite chuffed getting a good sized car for less than £110.!!! (for 7 days that is!!)

    :rotfl:

Where on the Hertz site do you put the Code?
    Thanks

Also, I have too kids an need two car seats. I was going to go with Carjet who seemed the best, though there was a 2EUR a day charge for each seat - though still cheaper than most - Avis charge nearly 7EUR a seat!!

However just before I booked I checked a few more out and found that Argus give your carseats for FREE! :j
That'll save me another 60EUR across the period of my holiday :D

They were also marginally cheaper, and offered the Quidco Cashback.

car seats don't come up free with Argus for me - more like £18 per seat for 2 weeks - and I need 3! Am I doing something wrong?

Perhaps it depends where you are going? My destination is Alicante and I checked in the terms and it stated free. Only let you select 1 seat, but I phoned up Argus and they told me that once I booked they would send a message to the rental firm advising them that I needed two.

Actually.... not going with Argus now :D

Found that Economy Car Hire have got a 7-seater Zafira Diesel for £299 for 15 days - Bargain!

Have to pay for car seats, but max charge of 20EUR, so only about £30 on top of 299 charge, better than the 374 charge with Argus, and this was not for a Diesel.

On that note..... has anyone taken a Car from Diesel-Car (the supplier) in alicante????

Just returned from there - 2 weeks with DieselCar. Paid for a Corsa - got a Meriva! Bit of a ding in the front bumper, but otherwise a nice quiet car.

Have had cars from them several times - never a problem.

Note that their office (van!) is in the car park though. Not with the block of suppliers in the terminal.

Thanks for that, couldn't find too much about them.

Did they offer a tyre/windscreen insurance?

Ah, now, there's an interesting thing!!! At the counter they will offer wheels, tyres AND glass for €15 per hire. Most other suppliers only cover wheels and tyres at this rate.

But, if you take a copy of the following web page, which is obviously an out-of-date page, they may let you have it all for €10! No promises mind!

    Incidentally, here's their own website..

Hi Vikki. Be careful with child seats. Not all suppliers will provide them as they may be held liable for wrong fitting/use by hirers. Those that do, may not maintain them well - kids tend to spill things (or worse!) on them!

If you're there for a while, it may pay you to take your own as hold baggage.

Just got back from my trip to Alicante (zafira with Dieselcar via economycarhire.co.uk) and no problems with the car. Had a bit of a damaged front bumper, but when I mentioned this he said it wasn't a problem with the insurance you got anyway. (i.e. doesn't matter if you prang it of not!?!).

Anyway, just to let you know that I got the car seats for free, basically you just helped yourself - only used the booster seats, but they all looked in reasonable condition, so no probs. Not sure if they do let you have them for free normally or if I was just lucky, but it did just seem a case of help yourself from the pile that were behind the 'office'.

They did give me the option of full to empty or empty to empty with the fuel, but just went for Full to empty as it was my first time driving abroad so didn't want the added hassle of finding a petrol station if I was running on fumes. Anyway, was probably the wrong choice in retrospect as was charged 60EUR for a full tank which looked a little excessive and I don't think it was quite full. However as I was expecting to pay 40EUR for car seats I wasn't too bothered about that.

Would definitely recommend them again, as it was a superb deal (about £70 cheaper than the next cheapest) and was even able to add a third driver for free half way through the holiday when I picked up my Mother and Father-in-law who joined us for the second week.
