On the website FAQ, it says:
Am I able to use 18866 if NTL or Telewest is my service provider?
Unfortunately only BT customers will be able to use 18866 to benefit from our discounted rates. If you are with NTL or Telewest and would like to make cheap international calls we would recommend using Telediscount access numbers.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by telewest broadband - does that refer to your internet service provider?

Generally if you have a BT line (i.e. paying BT some line rental), then you should be able to use 18866 for telephone calls.

  • i use telestunt to make my mobile(and landline calls) . but get a better deal because i route the calls to them through powergen . you can use powergen for your telephone only(i get gas and electric elsewhere) . the best of it is that powergen give you a 20% discount on your 10 most frequently used numbers . doing this i get mobile calls at 8p per minute . all landline calls are 0.8p per min and those retched 0870 can be reduced to 4p per min . the only downside of telestunt is you pay call costs if the number is engaged , however this is surely offset by the overall savings . PARTY ON DUDES !!!!!!!!! ;D
if i had known then what i know now

I'm thinking of signing up to 18866 but am concerned about setting up a continuous payment authority with a company registered in Switzerland. I notice earlier in this thread someone pointed out you can use a Visa debit card. Does anyone know if debit card payments can be stopped more easily than credit card payments?

    Thanks.

    A question regarding using Telestunt.

Am I right in saying a 1 minute call to a mobile at 10p/min actually costs 15p because you have to pay a minimum 5p charge to BT as well?

    Thanks.
  • not sure about BT but i use onetel and then telestunts overide service on my mobile which charge per min

therefore a 1 minute call to a mobile at 10p/min would cost 10p

or a 35 second call would cost 10p etc.

also use telestunt to call landlines 24/7 at 1p/m off my mobile, (using onetel override) cant beat that ;D

    Thanks for reply mr_accountant

I am probably being really thick but could you explain this further
"also use telestunt to call landlines 24/7 at 1p/m off my mobile, (using onetel override) cant beat that "

Are you saying you have a mobile phone from onetel and can call UK landlines anytime for 1p/min? What telestunt number do you ring? Uk landlines have an asterisk against 1p on their site referring to a different peak rate, the number given is 0845 244 30 30. However just noticed there is another number on their opening splash screen which includes UK in the list, 0844 8610861.
Also whats the "onetel override" or do you mean the telestunt number to override onetel?

I have a PAYG Virgin mobile so can I do this? Don't you get charged extra for dialling 0845 or 0844 from mobiles?

Back to my original query on the Telestunt FAQ page it says under both "How much does a call to COUNTRY X cost?" and "How will my calls be billed?" the following

"Your service provider also usually charges a minimum charge or connection fee for each call; for example BT applies a 5p minimum charge. NTL charges a 5p connection fee and Telewest a 6p connection fee for 08 numbers and 10p for 09 numbers. For other networks please contact your service provider."

Therefore I think a one minute call at 1p/min will cost me 15p (I'm with BT at the moment)

    Thanks for any advice.

Are you saying you have a mobile phone from onetel and can call UK landlines anytime for 1p/min?

no you dont need a onetel phone or contract, but you need to set up a direct debit with onetel for mobile override, so you can use their freephone override number (need to check if 0800 nos are free on your service privider, im with orange and they are)

once the account is set up ring the onetel 0800 override number, then the telesetunt no 0844 8610861, and uk geographic calls should be 1p/min.

you can then use your inclusive mins for 0870 and 0845 nos, and cross network if you have them.

you will nedd to check if using 0800 nos are free i suspect as your on PAYG there not, but im not sure.

I also refer you to the following articles by martin as i feel they explain how to use override numbers more clearly

    Thanks again mr_accountant.

I didn't know anything about onetel's mobile override. Unfortunately my mobile does charge for 0800s except for certain charities and helplines. My daughter has an Orange mobile but that's PAYG so she pays for 0800s too.

As regards my query about wether a 1 min Telestunt call (via BT) @10ppm would cost 15p I think it would only cost 10p. I am confusing the BT minimum charge with a connection charge.

In case I want to pass on advice to other people can you confirm if that 0844 8610861 Telestunt number is still giving 24/7 1p/min to UK numbers. The only number for UK I can see on their latest website is 0845 244 30 30 which has a M-F Daytime rate of 3.95p/min.

Our landline phone (ntl) is diverted to the mobile (o2 or onange). We are using it for a business so it has to be diverted when we are not in the office. It cost us a fortune. How do we save some money? If we change to BT and then use 18866 will it work with the diversion? Or is there any other way?
