OS Daily Sunday 5th Oct 08

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for the 5rd October . It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning. I have chosen grey for the sticky today as it's cold wet and grey out there. Nothing much to do outside today is there?

On this day in history.
1930

British airship R101 crashes at the edge of a wood near Beauvais in France en route to India, killing 48 of the 54 passengers including the British Air Minister Lord Thompson.

Anyway. I am off to work soon and hopefully it will be a quiet day. We will be starting with a full English breakfast whcih I will cook up for everyone and then see how the day goes.

Have a nice day....

Well...I've finally got around to it. I have ordered a slow cooked from Mr Tesco. Only one of those cheap jobbies that came up on the grabbit board a few days ago, but hopefully it'll come on Monday. Keep meaning to sort it out and have finally taken the plunge. Was also going to do a chicken next week, so might mix the two.

Will have to collect even more recipies now.

  • Morning N9eav, Rchddap1 & all who cross/follow

Dont' seem to have made it here for a couple of days, although I know I did do a skim through at some point (can't remember anything though!). Will go & do some catching up shortly.

Horribly wintery here today, definitely a "stew & dumplings" type of day.... Have some trousers to hem of my own & also a pair for youngest DD. A few paperworky type bits to do & also meal-planning for next week (1st week back to Uni). In my thoughts today are the 2 little boys who died in that house fire yesterday - it is just up the road from my house and they went to youngest DD's primary school (where my mate also works). I don't think I know the family personally, but DD's are aware of friends of theirs who do. Terribly sad.

(((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to all those needing them - hope the poorlies (and poorly OH's) are all continuing to improve.

Off to catch up a bit.
    xx

Edit: PinkWinged, your post from yesterday did make me laugh - I expect the hairdresser had a very memorable day then..!!! So glad your DD is all settled at Uni - knowing where she is & what it's like must help you feel better about it too.
Redruby, glad your nephew has turned up - will the move to Guildford be more of a long-term one for him? Hopefully he will be able to settle & turn his life around.
Ivyleaf, those little puddings in the cups sound lovely - I didn't realise you could bake cakes in things like that in the oven (I'd would have thought they'd crack??)

    Morning all

Was awake ridiclously early for a Sunday as OH got up to go to work and I couldn't get back to sleep. Lovely and warm here as OH has finally relented and put the heating on:D . It was so cold at work yesterday, had to phone the on-call engineer to try and get the thermostat re-set. Didn't make much difference when they did. Feel so sorry for the night staff and my poor patients.

SQUIGGLY what terrible news, hugs to you and yours.
MARIE glad Ulick is home and hope he continues to get better.
ANNIESTAR glad you enjoyed the concert.

Am typing this with little cat sitting near the keyboard, purring away. He really is so naughty and cute. He can get away with anything as he just makes me laugh, even nicking a joint of pork off the side.

Welcome back to Snowy, churchmouse and anyone else who hasn't been around recently.

Dinner is roast beef, yorkshires, roast neeps and tatties and veg. Apple crumble and custard to follow. DSS is coming around but unfortunately his lovely fiancee has to work. Have homework to do with DS, ironing and will probably take him swimming later.

Have a good day all. Hope no-one gets flooded or blown away.

Had a nice day with the folks yesterday. OH cooked a lovely Lasagna and served with salad and garlic bread.

I feel like I have a cold coming and feel a little shivery. I hope I will be okay for tomorrow as I have to go to Kings and see a Professor who I havent seen before.
I was given a date for my operation of the 11th November on Friday:eek:   but have to clear it with the professor tomorrow to make sure Im fit enough for the heavier GA. I had the pre-op assessment on Friday and was at the hospital for 3hrs in the end as I had a funny turn:rolleyes:

Anyway, Im not too sure whats happening on the threads as I havent looked at many posts, so if Ive missed anything...Im sorry.

Im resting today but OH is taking DD out for a while.

    Take care everyone.

Not as cold here this morning as it was yesterday [which has pleased me, as I thought the heating would have to go on today]. It is very wet and dull out though. Thankfully we're all staying in today so can avoid it.

There's hardly any washing to be done, so the WM can take a break today :T I have sorted the clothes into piles ready for ironing at some point. BM is on a dough setting, and I need to go and put the gammon joint in the SC, for later.

I've one more shelf to declutter in the hall cupboard, so will be doing that today - it's mainly full of christmas ornaments so not much will be thrown, but it needs tidying, and will also give me a chance to get excited about the festivities :j :j :j

Other than that, it's a[nother :o ] lazy day, so we will perhaps get board games out this afternoon and play those. DDs still enjoy those sorts of afternoons even though they are getting older.

icon_hug.gif HUGS icon_hug.gif to those who need them. I'm off to read the rest of yesterday's thread.

    Good Morning All

PP - hope the cold doesnt develop

Very wet and miserable here too. DS has a home football match at 11 - could possibly be cancelled so will listen out for the phone. He is going out later for his friends birthday - bowling and chinese buffet.

For the rest of us nothing much planned. Gonna jump in the shower in a minute and this morning will pop out to a local farm shop to buy a sack of potatos. Think they are £7 cant believe how much a bag of potatoes are in the supermarket now.

Roast chicken with normal trimmings for lunch also need to make some bread for tea tonight and packed lunch tomorrow. Still havnt bought any bread since the start of September so am very pleased with myself.

Am waffling now so off to finish my tea.

Hope you feel ok for tomorrow PP and you're not coming down with something that will mean cancelling your appointment.

    Morning all

I'm up early with a headache so looking at the screen will make it better I'm sure. i accidentally left the heating o all night and my head has been boiled by the radiator :(

Well last night's drama was that dd(19) called to say that she had asked her bf to leave .... and he has! I'll be amazed if that's the last we hear of him as the last time she tried to get rid he stole her house key and she had to come and live with me for a week but it's possible that he has someone else this time. She's a very young Mum and I know she gets lonely so the girls and I are wrapping her up with love and company at the moment so she's not tempted to have him back. I used to pop into hers on the way home from work but don't like to bump into him so I will make sure I start doing that again and her dsisters will do the same. I can't tell you how happy I am - this man is 6 years older than her, has been to prison, has a mystery job and disappears for days at a time only to reappear with a bunch of mates who end up staying till really late - hmmmm. dd(23) went up there last night as did a friend and we will all meet up in a couple of hours for a breakfast wetherspoons treat.

The girls are helping me choose a coat which is going to be missions as my criteria (suitable for wearing on a bike and very very warm) and theirs (cheap and sexy) may be a bit of a tall order.

dd(12) was moaning to dd(19) about how unhelpful I was when she was sick the other night - shouting encouragement from my bed - dd(19) said she was lucky as she's sure i used to put my head under the pillow. As a qualified first aider I have dealt with all sorts at w*rk but everyone knows that if it's anything to do with vomit, eyes or feet they should call one of the others first (although i'm sure I would cope if I've had to - just been lucky)

Squiggly - what tragic news - I am so grateful that pigpen makes us check our fire alarms on the flylady thread
Smoky - I can't beleive how much you've got done - I've been painting this blessed house for aeons
Naev - I feel your misery LOL
Marie - hope the patient contiunues to get better

have a good day everyone :)

looks like it is going to be a nice day today. got washing machine on already as I should be able to get some things line dried today. no idea whats for eating today, but I'm sure we wont starve.
yesterday I had a huge couch potato day ..and it was great. found the latest series of Project Runway which aired in USA over the summer on youtube, so I spent the day watching...got up to episode 11 and I thought perhaps I should stop ;) so I could watch X factor and strictly!!
have to admit in my favour I did manage to fit in a bit of tidying up, cleaned both bathrooms and put away the ironing that had been draped over the dining room chairs for days.

glad to hear ulick is home, hope you are ok pen-pin....and the memory of a gold fish strikes again so have a hug if you need one...can be used for congratulations or sympathy. :)
