Yes, I thought that but I was only there to buy one other thing anyway. Had a quick shufty round and got my usual bread on a reduced label too. I always thought loss leaders would be well established products though0 -
Is Cherrygood maybe a 'bread and butter' product in Waitrose and a 'luxury' in Tescos? They are aiming for different customers who generally have different views on price. If you check Waitrose for the more luxury goods you buy in Tesco's you might find quite a few products are cheaper in Waitrose. How do they compare for products like 'Innocent', 'Rachels' or Ecover?
It seems we are a bit more informed switching energy suppliers and banks if we're not happy with them but are still less flexible when it comes to supermarkets.
The book 'The Under Cover Economist' by Tim Harford will explain it better. Very readable - try your library of course. He has his own wesite too btw.0 -

It was only idle specualtion on my partMaybe Waitrose target their 'loss leaders' to a specific demographic, who knows?

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Hello all,
First time I have seen this thread - interesting.
First of all, Tesco Value Kitchen Roll (Comes in packs of twos and is SO MUCH better than the normal Tesco Kitchen Roll) used to be 99p a few weeks ago - the last time I checked my receipt it had jumped to £1.12 I think it was! HOWEVER - it still is so much better than other ranges that I will continue to buy it.
I would like to second the Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes price increase outrage. Unbelievable isnt it! We have Chilli & Spaghetti Bolognese in our house frequently and the price jumped something silly for the chopped tomatoes. I still buy them as I cant find anything else cheaper though - any suggestions?
Lastly - for those lazy on-line Tesco shoppers (like me) - a WARNING!!
When placing my next order I usually use one of my previous orders and simply click on the icons I used last time - IE - value cucumber, value peppers etc. This time I actually did a search for cucumber/pepper etc AND IN SOME INSTANCES THE VALUE ITEMS WERE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE NORMAL TESCO BRAND!!!!
I was shocked and immediately switched back to the Tesco brand as opposed to the Tesco Value brand. Bit tricksy of you Mr T!!!!!
So - I would suggest price checking each shop you do.

I was also shocked at the chopped tomatoes - in all supermarkets though, not just Tesco. I recall when they were something like 13p and now they are 38p for the value range. I don't like that range anyway (just full of juice and tops of tomatoes) and so go for the own brand - which at cheapest is now 59p - as much as the really expensive brands like Napoli used to be!!! I heard our PM on Radio 2 yesterday saying how the cost of food has GONE DOWN???!!!!! Not in these parts they haven't - where does he shop, the moon???0

I heard it too. It was on the Jeremy Vine show. You can probably listen to it again online.0 -

:eek::eek::eek:
My food is up more than the generally quoted 20% rise since last year. It might have gone down 10p last week after going up 99p last month though? Lies and statistics, what's the difference?0
