Well I don't think it's at all unreasonable to hope for more than 10 sides from an entire ink cartridge. Unless of course I'm missing something, or am just plain stupid.
Sorry I dont think we are on the same page here? Can you please clarify.

    ... Fair enough :p

Put like that, I can see it's reasonable. I didn't realise lecture notes etc would take so much ink.

With our printer (certainly not a high-end one), using refilled cartridges, we can print off dozens of pictures on photo paper and still have oodles of ink left.

I'm not sure what you want me to clarify. After reading Unrich's explanation, it seems to make sense that the OP would only be getting 10 pages per cartridge.

why the hell are you printing lecture notes at your own expense? thats what the Libary and Learning Centres machines are for. Even if you have to pay for printing its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a printer, ink and paper.

OH, I see what you mean, haha! Bit of crossed wires there! I would probably agree that PC World are skanks! ;) We got our first Tiny PC from them, back in the day. Conned us into buying an extended warranty, and about two weeks after we bought it, Tiny went bust

I had an HP printer the 1310 desktop make until July this year. I had had it for about 3 years and it used the HP56 and HP57 ink cartridges. I was buying them from tesco or morrisons cheaper than the HP price and I were happy with the compatiable ink cartridges. they were about £20 each and I was using about 3 of each a year. (I'm a uni student.) So about £120 a year in ink....

    but

in July this year the printer broke and I looked around for a new one and decided on the Epson Stylus DX7450 from pc world for £42.99. Not a cheap or expensive printer I thought as I have seen othrs advertised at 20 quid.

Anyway since I have started back at uni 3 weeks ago I have used £40 in printer ink, colour and black. So this is a total of 8 ink cartridges at a fiver each as these are the smaller ones (but only about half size of the HP ones) where you get 3 different colour ones. One of the colour ones only lasted 2 days. This is again in tesco and morrisons compatiable ink cartridges.

Went into PC world the other day to say not happy as its drinking my ink and therefore my money!!

They said to use the epson ones only. Thought it might not be truth and its a way of getting me out of shop. But I'll try it. Anyway I've bought some off the net, but not yet come, only ordered today.

I have been printing off lecture notes so the same sort of material with the same amount of ink in each slide. I have only been getting about 10 sides off with the ink cartridges which is no way excessive printing. If I don't get at least 60 sides off (which is about what I was getting with the HP printer) then its going back to pc world.

I want back the £42.99 and the £40 in ink cartridges which the printer has drunk. I also want back compensation for having to waste petrol money and valuable time for constantly having to go out and buy more ink cartridges. I have not been able to print everything I would like to have printer for my last year at uni and this has put me at a disadvantage.

I am appalled at the way this printer has been drinking my ink and so my money.  very !!!!ed off

Its your own fault for not checking out any reviews on it or obviously its specifications.

And if you cant find any then stay away obviously.

The fact you have used £40 in ink cartridges suggests you have had it a while and lets be honest if you wanted ur money back u would of took it back straight away.

i have only really started printing on it over the last 3 weeks and I have hardly printed on it still. I did virtually no printing on it over July and August because I wasn't at uni so I didn't realise that it used so much ink.

I will wait to see if the epson ink cartridges make a difference to the amount of printing I can do per ink cartridge instead of the compatiable tesco and morrisons ones, thou it would have to increase my printing from about 10 pages to about 60 pages of the same sort of material.

What do you think my chances are?

I did find a few reviews for the DX7450, but nothing to put me off buying it.
you can't find reviews for everything you know thou!!

    I thought I'd better ask -

Does anyone know of a laser printer with colour, scanning and photocopying (as you all seem to recommend laser) which isn't like over £150, which in the long run would have the same or better economical value on ink cartridges?

I know you said that it is better quality to get a black laser printer only but space for all the machines is an issue there.

the printers I have looked at, which is a good review of the market in July when I bought the printer had many specifications, but done for the economical value of its ink cartridges. I thought they were all pretty much the same so no need to include it in a specification. Its the same now - no specifications for ink cartridge economic value. I would invest in a higher price printer for better life in ink cartridges but since I had no info to go on I couldn't compare them
