lolz.
Why not just print them off using the uni's facilities... this would probably work out far cheaper. I don't know if you'll ever be happy with any printer given your high expectations.Russia is HERE0 -
no, laser printers are generally tools, not toys, scanners scan, copiers copy, printers print, any combination and you are compromising qualityUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

uni printers were expensive compared to my old HP. not possible to print in colour which when all my lecture notes are maps, diagrams and soil profiles there's no point in printing them black and white. it was 4p single sided and 6p double sided. This is expensive I was getting black for 1.5p ish with my old hp printer.
i use the photocopier and scanner for my uni work
using diagrams from books etc in reports. I scan them into my work and reference them0 -
PC World are skanks! Go to your local small computer shop the guy there will get you more for your money, ask about these new ink tanks, they are about £45 but you get your money back after the first 10% usage as the tank is huge! And it only costs a couple of quid to refill and they are compatable with most printers.I have only printed about 12 pages of lecture notes because I can not do anymore printing I have no money left for ink. The printer, and all other printers do not have a comparison for printer ink useage. I had not idea how crap the printer was before I bought it, I could not find any reviews on it.
pc world is going to pay upSince when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
i used to fix the copiers at our local uni. we charged them .5 pence per copy, you can work out how much money they make0

lexmark e120 is as small as an inkjet. (footprint)
does duplex
you could use toner refills to make it cheaper.0 -
I think some of the comments in this thread have been a bit harsh - it sounds like there is a problem with your printer - you should definitely be getting more than that, IMO. If PC World can't resolve your problem, you may be better off ditching it and getting a new one, and putting it down to experience.
I would highly recommend the HP Photosmart 2575 - Printer, scanner and photocopier all in one. S'got card readers and can work independently of the computer. The ink has been excellent - they work out about £40 to buy both colour and b/w cartridges from places like WHSmith etc, but if you get them refilled at a Cartridge World (or somewhere similar) you can cut it down to about £15 for both.
I got mine a year or so ago for about £60 (it was half price) in Curry's.
Hope this helps

Well I don't think it's at all unreasonable to hope for more than 10 sides from an entire ink cartridge. Unless of course I'm missing something, or am just plain stupid.....Honest, not harsh.

Cartridges often quote their usage characteristics as being based on 5% coverage. So basically light text across a page.
The HP 1310 takes as the OP suggests 56 cart and 57 cart.
56 is black and 19ml = 450 pages
57 is colour and 17ml = 400 pages
NB:"Average cartridge yield: Actual yield depends on specific use including images printed, printer, print settings and other factors. pages (black)"
Oh but look also listed are carts 27 and 28
27 back and is 10ml = 220 pages
28 colour is 8ml and = 190 pages.
So if I was buying compatible cartridges for £5 guess what ink volumes they are more likely to be? The big carts or the little carts??
OP is printing at 50% density on a page. (22 pages not 220) Big colour diagrams and lots of black on cruddy cheapo paper.
Perhaps the cheaper compatibles don't have as dark a black or as colourful a colour and the OP has not tuned the ink for low usage. half as many pages. 11 not 22.
The maths add up.
10ish pages from a cartridge.0
