I agree with the coments re: laser vs inkjet, I would only use an inkjet when I had too, guess why an inkjet printer is cheap, it's because it drinks teh ink like a fish and the ink is expensive, therefore, they make their cash on the ink!!

I have had a colour HP laser printer for a year now and it's still on it's first set of cartridges, it does a fair bit of printing, in excess of 4000 pages so far and the black cartrifge is about half used, the three colour ones about a quarter.

Ok, the printer and the cartridges are not cheap, but, it came with a full set and they are still going, I bet I would have spent nearly the same amout on ink for a cheap inkjet so far, plus it would wear out far quicker.

My advice, invest in a decent laser!!

you can get anything out of any store if you speak to the right person.

With my old HP printer I used to get colour for about 3p a side and just black for about 1.5 p a side. now its costing me £1.43 a side for colour. All this is based on printing the same sort of stuff with the same standrad printing quality.

the ink that comes with an epson is not a full amount - so you usually have to buy new refills pretty quickly. £1.43 (???) a side of colour suggests maybe a fault with the printer.

What print setting have you got it? If you are print full photo quality for lecture notes its going to be expensive. I use text setting mostly on the epson.

but I have not got enough room in my study for a laser printer and I need a photocopier too. Most of the stuff I do has colour on it. The colour is important with the degree I'm doing - photos, maps, diagrams etc..

I don't suppose anyone has an old HP 1310 I can buy off them

I was very surprised to find the one I wanted, and I had compared all the ones I was looking at, the spec and the reviews and thought this was the best out of the ones I was looking at. Didn't want to spend more than £50 and need a 'all in one' and one on offer etc...
