Hi Everyone
I've been lurking rather than posting recently - can't tell you haow much I'm looking forward to retiring in December and having time to enjoy a sensible life again! This week has been manic - and my body could probably do with 48hrs shut-eye! However, we have a dear friend coming to stay overnight so I've been cleaning like a maniac! WM has done 3 loads, most of which is now dryish on the line - but I'm watching the rolling black clouds carefully. Shopping done - sadly I'm noticing a lot in the trolley was not as OS as it should be - but I just don't have time to cook properly and DH bless him has been busy too. BM has to go on next...
We had our living room painted earlier this week - it looks so nice virtually empty, but I know I'll need to put most things back too quickly to do a proper sort out as I'm lacking in time and we need to use the other rooms too - which is where all the contents of livingroom have been stashed this week!
Ho-Hum! Anyway, loads of hugs and love to all who need it. Glad Ulric is home Marie - please take care of yourself too. Hope to be back more often...Resolution:

Hi again,
Well second batch of bread has been a fantastic success and I am chuffed to bits. I realise that the Good Housekeeping recipie I had used didnt contain any sugar... surely the yeast needs the sugar? Anyway, I followed a Jamie O recipie and and feeling very smug!
Second lot of yoghurt is on its way, should be ready for breakfast tomorrow, fingers crossed!!If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!0 -
Just sat down for the first time today!
Took 2 dogs out for a marathon walk in the chill. Just made some Crab Apple jelly free from the garden, and I've got bread a-brewing in the bread maker, 2hr 37minutes and counting! Just having a quick surf, uploading some new photos for my flickr before I make some jam tarts. Need to make a shopping list for tomorrow morning.
Hope everyone's okay!0 -
Pink - When the hairdresser offers to take your DH's coat, I hope he remembers to say no!
Just made yummy bacon and sweetcorn chowder AND i did the ironing. We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Afternoon all,
Well we did not get out for our walk, it was not bad here this morning, but started to rain at about 11, and has not stopped since  . OH and I sorted through the shed this morning, have got two bikes to get rid or and a scooter, dd has grown out of them, so we thought we would put them out by the front of the house with a help yourself notice on, if that does not work we will put them on freecycle. Garden furniture is now in the shed for the winter, which should protect it from the weather, I am pleased cos I have been wanting to sort the shed out for ages :T .
Nephew did turn up again last night, and was at home having a B/day tea, his mum had given him £30 to buy a PS2 game, any way the doorbell went and his mum ansewered it, it was one of nephews 'friends', she told them that he was busy, and by the time she walked back to the kitchen, nephew has escaped over the back wall and gone again. He turned up in the early hours p****d as a fart, with no money left, and 'friend' had abandoned him, once the cash had run out, nephew has a learning difficulty and cannot see when someone is using him. Its such a sad story all round. Anyway it seems that a place has been found for him in Guildford, which is used to dealing with boys like him, so hopefully he can go there and they will help to sort him out.
Oh and I went to a few local shops for a few bits, and popped into see his dad, will spend the rest of the afternoon in as its misserable weather.
Pink glad dd is enjoying herself xx
Marie good news about Ulick being home :j
Anniestar enjoy your 'boys' xx
Have good afternoons all xx0 -
:hello: Good afternoon, or good evening, whichever you prefer:D
I haven't been around on MSE much for about a week. Last weekend we went to Dover for MIL's birthday - had a great time seeing most of DH's family, and a gorgeous meal out. I MUST just tell you about the dessert we had - the meno said "Pear and Stem Ginger Cups with Toffee Custard", and we didn't know what to expect but thought it sounded interesting. It turned out to be pears, in the bottom of a cup (I suppose it would be a cappucino cup - bowl-shaped), with ginger sponge mixture on top, then baked in the oven, with a little jug of toffee-flavoured custard. It was delish, though quite "hot" due to the stem ginger - easy to make, but unusual and yummy!
I had a lovely surprise this morning. Some of you may remember that a couple of weeks ago I was having a bit of a rant because I wanted to go to the Knitting and Stitching Show, but tickets on the door were really dear, and I didn't want to buy them in advance in case either DH or I weren't well enough to go when the time came (and they were still pretty dear even if bought in advance). I'd thought there weren't any compeittions to win tickets in my sewing magazines this year - then I thought I'd just check the previous month's magazine - and that had a chance to win a pair of tickets. So I decided I'd have a go, and see what happened. Well, guess what turned up in the post this morning - yes, a pair of tickets! :j :j I'm so pleased - now I just have to hope we are both well enough on the day (it will have to be Friday as we're going away on Sunday) and that there's Blue Badge parking next to Alexandra Palace, or we'll have to trek up the hill and then be too tired to walk round:rolleyes:We'll take a picnic with us.
Well, I have to admit we've had the heating on for a couple of weeks now. If the air in the house is cold, no amount of layers seems to warm my hands and feet, and if DH is cold his joints get very stiff, and we both have a lot more aches and pains. It's a nuisance, but can't be helped, and we can't get cavity wall insulation as our house has solid walls.
I haven't much hope of catching up with most of a week's posts, so for now I'll just send best wishes to everyone, and a big "WELCOME!" to our new posters
Ooh, must say "WELCOME BACK!" to Snowy though!:hello: :hello: We've missed you, petal!
very best wishes

Good evening!
Snowy and Pink posted! :j :j Good to see you both.:DNow I’ve met the two men in Pink’s post, and they are two very handsome hunks. My imagination is working overtime…......:o
:rotfl:
Snowy why on earth are you not allowed to apply for the job when it goes permanentThey’d be daft not to consider you.;)
Essexgirl, there’s nothing wrong with having the heating on. Mine is chugging away, it’s been freezing here today.:D
Catowen, have a lovely girlie weekend. Hope DS enjoys his tour, it really is impressive inside. I’m inclined to agree with Snowy, a 10 year old machine won’t repay the cost of repair. If you can possibly work it, I’d stretch myself to a new one.
Hope Joanna and stefe’s DD are both feeling better.
red ruby, I do hope your nephew gets sorted soon. So sad for him, and an enormous worry for you. ((hugs))
meanmarie, so glad Ulick is home. (((hugs))) to you both. He has a long path ahead, but together you'll make it
ivyleaf :j :j How lovely, and thoroughly deserved that you should win the tickets. I can't think of a nicer person to get them. Now keeping everything crossed you'll be fit on the day;)Our house is solid walls too, and was mighty chilly so the heating is on, and staying on:D And that pud sounds very yummy!
Not managed a great deal of OS today. Had to go searching for High School Musical merchandise for a great-niece's birthday. Of course there's tons of it about, so I was spoilt for choice and kept changing my mind:o Finally settled on some PJs and a rather nice long sleeved tshirt. Hope she likes my choice.
The slowcooker is in action today, filled with the most divine smelling beef casserole. I'm starving, but want to wait for DS3 to arrive home ( he's back temporarily, long story:rolleyes: ) and all eat together. He'd better get his skates on though, as I can't wait too much longer.
I seem to have typed a very long missive, sorry:o
Anyway, welcome to the newbies, (((hugs))) for the poorly

Churchie, If only you'd seen them when they arrived home! The word 'hunk' would have been the last thing to spring to mind! They looked like two bedraggled tramps. :rotfl:
The hairdresser scalped them both too! I have a theory on that. She was either so distracted by their attire that she couldn't concentrate properly or she wanted it cut so short that it would be months (and hopefully her day off) before they came back again! :rotfl:

Evening all,
I have had to move out of the living room...it is like a smoky sauna...every time I turn my back Ulick turns the heat to 'constant', the tv is at its highest volume and he is smoking like a chimney...has to be reminded to take his medication so that's three other things for me to remember! One of his brother's called in to see him and advised him to have a drop of whiskey before he goes to bed at night...kindly meant, but.... He is eating fine and made us a lovely sandwich each at tea time, we had our main meal at 2 so we might get to 3 meals a day at some stage, like normal people.
DGS demanded a new red scarf yesterday morning when he was cold going to school, so have been working on that for some of the day...have also been continuing the sorting of the kitchen cupboards...knocked down a large jar of passata onto the new tiles this afternoon...was I mad.
Pink and Snowy, nice to see you around for a change...really thought the saga of your men's haircut funny Pink...not sure any of the male persuasion are to be trusted out in pairs!
Sleep well all

Hi guys,
The rain never arrived until this evening, so we didn't get soaked going to the market. Got my block of cheese for £12 and have frozen half of it. The lamb chops were beautiful so I got a big bag of minted ones for £10. We then set off for Stermat and got all the paint and paper and accompanying odds and ends. My lovely sis came just after we came home and she and BIL picked up the bunks for me and this afternoon was taken up with setting them up (thanks to sis and BIL :T :T :T - rewarded with some Thorntons mis-shapes, minted chops and all the bedding from our old bed as my new one is a 3/4.) and I hung the curtains so the boys room is done.
The dining room is now back to normal as the kids are back upstairs and the house has had it's usual hoover and swipe through.
Tomorrow - hopefully the plan is to strip the paper in my room, polyfill and hang the anaglypta. I have chosen a warm cream for the walls but we will see - the best laid plans of men and all that.
Big gentle hugs to all in need tonight or a cold one (or two), I am enjoying mine
Great to see some of the 'oldies' postingWelcome to the 'newbies'.
Pen-pin - hope you are OK.
Meanmarie - glad to hear Ulick is home.
Good night all,
