Enjoying having DD back for a couple of days and taking her shoppng later for a warm coat and some boots.

DD(14) has now decided she wants to come too as she needs some warm long sleeve tops.

I want to see if Boots are doing flu jabs this week while I am out but am wary of the fact that I have just started to sneeze!!!!!

Mince is defrosting and I might make shepherds pie later or some home made burgers.

Looking forward to xfactor tonight and just relaxing after belting round the shops.

To anyone who likes Cath Kidson

The bookpeople are doing a book of her designs to make cushions, bags, aprons etc from - if I am reading it right the book comes with a free Cath Kidson bag - the book costs £4.99 so I ordered one and found some good offers that my DDs will like for Christmas as well.:j

This has already been posted elsewhere on the site but I wanted to give OSers a heads up as I know lots of us like her stuff.

Going to get dressed now, get money for shopping and convince myself I do not have a cold coming on!!!!!!!;)

Hi all.. lurker here! I'm reading for inspiration from you all.. slowly trying to become more old style - I'm only 24, give me time! We've been running the freezer down for the last few weeks so going shopping today for more mince to make up cottage pies and bolgnaise sauces to stock back up with.

CravingSaving - you could try FreeCycle for a small amount of chicken wire. There's probably someone who didn't think of that first and had to buy the big roll and the rest is now languishing in a shed. That's my excuse for all the half used things around this house! :(

    Morning all!

Chilly here, noticed it for the first time this morning when I got out of bed. Had the fire on last night, it felt really cosy!

Got the bm going and watercress soup in moski for lunch (bargain ys watercress, twas 6p for each bag so couldn't leave it at that price!). Will be Mexican fahitas and all the trimmings later, I enjoy making all the bits with the kids, it's lovely as they all chat away.

dd1 is away at a friend's house tonight, and dd2 has gone off to explore the new Harvey Nicks with friends, ds is working I think, so will be taking dd3 off to Taunton to pick up my new jam maker, Lakeland phoned as they are finally back in stock!

Had to go and have our photos done this morning for publicity for the charity ball that the village are organising, comes to something when the local authority expect you to pay for your own road crossings!

Welcome to big spender and halight!

Donnygal - thanks for the link, will get myself down there on Thurs, if only cos oh knocked the Chrimbo tree over twice last year trying to turn the lights off!

Pippa - shopping consultants and spider catchers, is there nothing we can't do? lol! Actually my phone goes quite a lot with "urgent" queries from friends who want to know the best place to buy this or that, or if I can get it cheaper on the internet!

Elona - thanks for the Cath Kidson tip, will have a look, I wanted to order a few books from them for the kids for Christmas, that sounds perfect for me though - does everyone else buy their own pressies?!

Hugs to all in need, off to catch up on yesterday's thread! xx

Welcome elle-gee! Good idea about the chicken wire, or they do sell it in small sheets (think rabbit hutch door sized) in our local garden centre, it isn't cheap though, so good luck Crazy Saving! Terriers would be my preferred option, you might need to borrow them several times though, and make sure none of your neighbours are leaving out bacon rinds for the birds as this attracts rats big style!

Hi everyone and welcome to Halight and Elle - you'll love it here!

RedRuby - hope your nephew has turned up by now.

Pippa - my DH started complaining about feeling the cold a couple of years ago; it coincided with nature deciding to give me hot flushes so it was a complete role reversal for a while! He still feels the cold (which, in his case, I put down to age!) and I feel it again now. Still, we'll both have to get used to wearing extra jumpers because we're not going to be able to have the heating on as much as in previous years.

Stef- (((hugs))) to DD - hope she feels a lot better soon.

(((Hugs))) to Smoky (you are really working hard, I hope you are taking time out for yourself), PenPin, Jayward, Hilstep, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Pippa's DH and Mum and Beth and her family - oh, and everyone who has the rotten cold that's going around at the moment.

    Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:

Well, despite going food shopping yesterday, I still forgot the sugar so I had to go out again today. I bought some more white vinegar while I was out. Yesterday, I found red lentils in the Co-op for anyone who has been finding them difficult to find. I bought two bags because I intend using them a lot to bulk the meat out in stews and bolognese and so on. Plus, they make lovely soup.

Anyway, DH is working till mid-afternoon so I shall get some work done and then sit and do some knitting this afternoon.

The weather started off cold but sunny and dry; now it's trying to rain and the sun has gone in. Winter is definitely on the way.

    See you all later.

Dipping in as I'm up and about to go for an induction at the gym. So there goes lots of my moneysavingness, I know I could just jump up and down at home, but it's posh, next to my office, and has a nice warm swimming pool. £58 a month isn't too bad for central London, I think. Eeek. It's basically my share of the savings from finally getting our council tax band down to a sensible level from F.

Anyway I made experimental soup last night and it worked out really nice, if you like that sort of thing.

One and a half large potatoes, boiled soft, half a bulb of smoked garlic, fried until slightly darkened, tin of Tesco artichoke hearts (not actually that expensive, about £1.30), chopped and added to the garlic, all mixed together with two heaped teaspoons of white pepper, then blended with the water from the potatoes and some vegetable stock. Made three bowls.

I was rehydrating some barley but it took forever so that had to go in the bog-standard roast tomato and chilli soup I made later.
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

  • Hi again,

    Hi Ellie_Gee

Washing is nearly dry on the line, shall get it in before I go to work. Have made the most lush chicken and vegetable soup. just loads of leftover veg pureed up, then cooked up some thighs and legs, stripped the meat of and shredded it into the soup, last touch was some leftover cream. yum yum!:D

I am having for lunch a mushroom omlette with HG salad. My tea at work will be leftover shepherds pie and baked beans. Am so pleased DS tried some yesterday and liked it!

    catch you all later.
