It will only charge for around three quarters of an hour .....

Must admit I was a bit concerned at how fast his charged, not exactly sure how long 'cause we had several Xmas pressies all on charge at the same time, but it wasn't much more than an hour whereas my Nano took 4 hours (but that was explained in the booklet), the iRiver manual gave no indication of how long you should leave it on.

His definitely doesn't do this, he's played full albums (12 tracks'ish') and uses it on battery power when connected to his Aldi external speakers and we haven't recharged yet, although saying that he does have it connected to the PC a lot as he gradually fills it with music so I wonder if it also charges via USB? (Not that that helps you any, sorry)

Just been over here to an iRiver enthusiasts forum.

My player is working again and showed a full battery charge which puzzled me so i went off to see if anyone had similar issues.

Seems this is classed as freezing and isn't uncommon. :(

  • Well hopefully that's good news and just a temporary glitch?

Has it put you off such that if you find the receipt you'll go for a refund?

Must admit I had been onto Misticriver to see if I could find anything to help you but I got sidetracked reading about firmware updates and UMS and MTP versions which I'm having difficulty getting my head around. I'll have to see what version firmware Junior has and see if it's worth updating.

He's also keen to use iTunes rather than Windows Media Player which I told him he couldn't but there is a slim possibility he may be able to after reading some posts in the forums, further investigation required.

    Cheers,

If it was just a temporary thing, that's fine. I just hope it's not a frequent thing...that would bug me.

My firmware is version 1.17 EP MTP which isn't the latest but I can't fathom out which version is the right one to download.

If you installed the iriver stuff that came on the cd then open up iriver plus and click on help, check for update. You need your iriver to be pluged into your pc. It should install the latest version on your pc and iriver. I'm think that is what I did. My firmware version is 2.51E

I hadn't installed anything as I already had WMP 10 so just used that. However I've just stuck the cd in the pc and all that seems to be on it is WMP 10. I don't see anything about iriver plus?????

This is the confusing bit. I think the iriver plus software is linked with/only comes with the FM radio version of the H10 (i.e. the 'Colour' model) and allows auto-updating of firmware, whereas the WMP 10 is for the non-FM radio version (i.e. the 'Pure' model) and requires manual updating.

I'll do some more research later when I get a chance and let you know what I come up with.

I've been on the iriver support site and downloaded the MTP updater but when I plug the player in and start it, the updater tells me it doesn't support it.

    http://www.iriver.eu.com/download_details.html?L=0&d_id=736&products=61&cats=1&Input2=&rn=8&order=

That was what I thought I should've used.

There must be other peeps who have bought this and updated it but not by using the iriver plus thing?

Thank you raeble and Bubba for helping, much appreciated.

I have to say the iriver site has the most awful and confusing support section I have ever seen and I upgrade other stuff regularly so I'm not exactly new to the basic idea or process.

Anyway, after downloading just about everything I could find, lol, finally the updater worked and the player seems to be working perfectly (famous last words perhaps.......I've only listened to 4 songs so far :))

It is now version 2.51 and I know the American version doesn't have the volume cap ours has......but my player now seems much louder and the scroll function seems faster

If it doesn't switch off by itself, I'll be one happy bunny again.

(Word of warning for those upgrading....make sure your mobile is not near you. I was listening to the player after upgrading the firmware and I kept hearing this faint 'tinkle'. My heart sank as I thought there was yet another problem........only it was my new phone sitting beside me that I'd got from my kids at Xmas and I wasn't used to hearing it yet. :o:D )
