  • Good Morning everyone,
I am still feeling chipper this morning, although it's a bit chilly, and my cold is still making my nose feel like it belongs to someone else. I have to start dolloping on e45 on my arm today, apparently it's good for re-vitalising skin injuries.
I am taking my four eldest grandchildren to see Harry Potter today followed by a McD's.The movie I don't mind ,but I'm not all that keen on the junk food. But that's part of their annual Christmas jaunt with Nan. I then have to drop two of them back to their Mum's then take the other two to their house where I am sitting for them until tommorow as their parents are off to London to see Mama Mia.
A brilliant show that I have already seen.
So it's mega spoil-night with Nanny. We eat lots of unsuitable things and watch trashy t.v.Might even get a dvd as I have some free vouchers for Blockbusters. Arm is improving daily and last night managed to do a bit of knitting. I can even type with two hands now what a result.
Hope everyone is feeling as upbeat as I am
    Cheers folks

    Morning My Lovlies,

I am watching all the birds in my garden at the mo, its LOVELY. I bought some fat balls cheapf rom LIDL and always put the crusts from kids sandwiches etc and the birds are loving it today when the ground is frozen solid.

Last nights meal was great and the cheesecake went down a treat. Am going to make one for xmas day at the in-laws too. I know its not very christmasy but being lemon it will be quite refreshing to eat after a heavy lunch.

I've done a metre reading and found my latest estimated bill for both gas and electric to be badly miscalculated. So have phoned them up and to be on the safe side I've increased myDD by £5 each per month to cover the larger winter useage.

Today will be lazy as NO SCHOOL - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So will be playing games all day long.

DD1 (3) suprised me last night, I've put her back in a nappy at nights for the last month as she was wetting EVERY night (sometimes twice). Last night she wouldnt let DH put one on her and when I came home at 1.35am(!) she was sitting on the loo! I praised her for about 10 minutes as its the first time ever that she has woken with the need to go. So I will try the same tonight and may draw up a star chart today as an added bit of incentive.

Off to browse now, have a good day all,
    Al.

Frugglewump- I have similar probs with mine being a dodgy system. Its warm air rather than radiators and many of the parts arent made anymore. Luckily when our neighbours upgraded to rads we asked if we could keep all the components of theirs and they said yes.Now if anything goes wrong our engineer(a lovely guy) uses those fors pare parts saving us money on buying expensive old parts and loads more on not having to replace the entire system just yet!

  • Morning :santa2:

Not a bad night here, still up early but managed to sleep 5hrs which is good for me!!

WM has just finished, so either needs drying outside or in TD-will see in a minute. DW is only half full and toilet has been cleaned. Downstairs os pretty much tidy and clean. SIL cleaned out fridge for me yesterday, did blinds, cabinets and teddies, fireplace and all my ironing :j so am very pleased. Its annoying that Im unable to do it but am glad that my SIL helps out so much and the jobs get done  Id rather pay her than someone I dont know and she needs the money.

Going to try and venture out to the library today...possibly :p and am hoping to take DD to the zoo tomorrow as she has an annual pass and we only have to pay £4 each and will just take a pack up and flask with us. Will use the electric wheelchair but it should be very quiet this time of year ;)

    Anyways, will catch up later.

    Breakie: scrambled egg and toast
    Lunch: Baked potatoe/coleslaw/ham/cheese
Dinner: Lamb, mash and Veg (suppose to have last night but got invited to BIL's for dinner!) Apple crumble and custard for pud

Its a very Old Style day for me too. Free Food.

I'm off to Queenies for a crumpet breakfast, and to Penny Pinchers for yummy lamb at dinner. Just waiting for someone to post a scrummy lunch and thats me set for the day! :snow_laug

Discovered yesterday that my "boss" is not going to pay me for the transcription this month, but next  month.

Am livid. I have had to take our Holiday fund to pay for the excess on the car repairs on the assumption that when he paid me that overtime money, I would use it to book the Disneyland trip. We wanted to go end of Jan. If I wont get the money until the end of Jan, then fat chance.

However. As we are having problems with DD1's passport, then I suppose that technically its all right as I can't book it until thats sorted out and that could take months before we can take it to court
(DD1 has her passport stolen whilst we were on hoilday last year. As her "mother" signed for it, my OH cannot sign the stolen/lost form - "mother" has to by law? But she is in prison and we will refuse to contact her in anyway shape or form. SO, we have to go to court  to ask a judge to cancel it. I can understand about child adbuction rules, but it is barmy that the passport office dont have an independent adjudicator or (equivilent)

    Anyway. rant(s) over.

My last day at work for 2 weeks. Last day for kids too. So despite all the  on my posts today, I am still very :p :j
  • Morning all :hello:

Haven't been on here for a few days so may spend the morning reading posts :)

Trying to avoid the big Christmas shop by going to tescos with a basket over the next couple of days. Dont think I can face the gauntlet with a trolley!

Spent yesterday writing lists! Today I will do a master shopping list and tick things off as I get them. Will email to hubby as he's going to Sainsburys with vouchers tonight and I'll pick him up from there - let him get stressed for a bit :D Am going to be super organised this year and plan how to cook the Xmas lunch (!)

Boss has had a shot of generousity and said we can finish on Thursday instead of Friday :D 3 more days!!!

    Have a lovely day!

    Good morning all

Queenie: You gave me inspiration with your talk of resolutions, to keep firm to my idea of stopping smoking today
JackieO: I hope the cold will be better soon. Harry Potter is a FANTASTIC film, you will enjoy it no end!
PP: Good to hear that you have got some sleep and I hope you feel better!
KC: I hope your day with your kids will be good and relaxing
Charlotte: I would invite you for a free lunch but with the situations I have on my hands at the moment it would not be very relaxing - check me out after 11th January (when my mum leaves). BTW do you all really live so near that you visit each other in person? I'd love to have MS OS neighbours!

    Anyway:

This morning I was up and ready before 7am (due to nerves about my mother's arrival) and I thought to myself:

'Today I am going to be the one to open the OS day thread *hehehe*'

So I went on the computer and as I started writing, my teenage son came in and asked me if I could keep him company on his paper round. *MELTDOWN!!!* So of course I switched off the machine and off I went with him into the cold winter morning!

This is such a rare occurrence (him actively asking for my company rather than enduring it in a teenage-sulky way) that it really warmed my heart!

Anyway, back home, his two friends, who slept over, were waking up and needed breakfast. Meanwhile a friend of mine dropped in before 8 am to bring me my daughter's presents that she had hidden in her house to keep it as a surprise.

In the middle of all of this, my husband, who was meant to pick up the car-club (car share) car for the first time ever, to pick up my mother at the airport, was faffing and f*rting around saying that he could not find his membership card (which is needed to open the car). So I had to call the car people - no response - then sift through the mountains of paperwork that we did not have time to sort yet - in the end he found it somewhere else

    *******STRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS*******

Because it doesn't rain but it pours, today is the day that I have designated to stop smoking.

My mother will arrive at 12 noon at Stansted airport, the house is clean and tidy but will it be by the time we are back (what with kids doing their thing etc)? I am a wreck and desperate for a fag.

Breakfast: a gobbled-up bowl of homemade muesly
    Lunch: God only knows
Dinner: I shall probably dine on my own bile, the way I feel!

    WISH ME LUCK, PEOPLE!

    Love to all

    Caterina

The very best of luck and it does sometimes feel as if life has it in for you.

DD has just left muttering darkly about her job and how she thinks she is about to be sacked - but will not let me contact personnel to reassure her.

Woke up quite happy but now can feel my nerves twanging like piano wire.

Maybe a cup of coffee will help but at the moment I feel like crying.

    Hello there!

Today it's the school carol concert at the primary school. Then we can take the children home from school early if we wish. So I will be taking both my children to McDonalds  afterwards as a treat because they finished school for xmas.

Tomorrow my boyfriend is coming here for xmas. He lives in London so we dont see that much of each other.

  • Big work deadline last night meant I was in the office until midnight  still at least they paid for a takeaway mid-evening, and a taxi home, which being not that central cost best part of £40  which of course I rounded up for the driver as it wasn't my money :D

And back in at 9am of course with shedloads more to do.

Good news is that I've been recommended a recruitment agency who could get me a job for the organisation I want - a friend temps for the organisation in question through the same agency and has given me the number for her temp controller (my friend gets £100 in M&S vouchers as an incentive if they find a job for somebody she's recommended to them!)

Other good news (at least for my successor after I resign in disgust) is that I have finally convinced my boss that I am almost doing the work of two people, and she is now putting in a proposal for somebody to take over part of my job (and part of somebody else's).

I'll be taking a long lunch today to go to the carol service/concert that Southwark Cathedral puts on for local office workers. Went last year and ended up volunteering for a solo  but hopefully that gets me out of doing one this year!

My Tesco Clubcard finally came through yesterday so I think I'll shop for the rest of the Christmas food and drink this evening - I'll go to big Tesco's either in Lewisham or Sidcup and pay for a taxi home out of the Christmas budget. I'm quite cross because if they'd sent me my proper clubcard a fortnight ago (it's taken several weeks) I could have done an online order and not had to traipse around the supermarket. Alternatively I could do the same as Alfietinker and do it gradually over the next 4 days. Still haven't found time to buy a tree. Housemate is back from holiday on Friday and sadly I suspect it still won't be there when he gets back - as my local garden centre closes too early for me to get there. I should be able to get over there on Friday afternoon at least - the garden centre has extended Friday opening hours in the run-up to Christmas and I will most likely get a free afternoon off on Friday anyway.

Caterina - I've not yet met anybody from MSE but there are a few of us in the SE London area. Penny-Pincher is 20 minutes walk away from me and Ivyleaf is not much further. We're a bit further out than you and yours though.

kiwichick - congratulations on making progress with your DD's toilet training!

Ironically this should be a really cheap week, as I've got no evening plans (except staying home to cook and listen to Radio 3 playing the complete works of Bach) and ll the expense of Christmas is already in a separate budget.
