You're lucky, OP. We don't even get parcels that DON'T need to be signed for. Our postie completes a card, while still in his car, and shoves it through the door with the letters!

I caught him once a few months back, so opened the door to him and asked him for the parcel. He went very red when he had to tell me he didn't even have it with him.

What you originally said was, you want your item now not next week, then later on you said you were at work all day.
What DO you want? The postie leaves it he is wrong, he leaves a card he is wrong. Damned if you do, damned if you dont. Who would be a postie the way people are today?

with regard to customers you cannot win
you get moaned at if you are too early/late
local collect, online redelivery, collect from the office, extended opening hours are not good enough
if the postman doorsteps it we get a complaint,if he doesnt we get a complaint
just before i left on saturday i had a woman screech into the car park
complaining the office was shut(this was a good 15 minutes past the published times) saying she had been at the office the day before 'just' after closing time and she needed her packet..........................

the exact thing has happend to me, my postie doesnt bother to even bring the parcels, he just puts card through. and the occasions he does he leaves them on my door mat for all to see.

  • Poor old posties, they are never going to win. It's like being a traffic warden, or train conductor (thats me). There's so many rules and regulations to obey and you've got to try and work them practically and with a modicum of common sense - so of course you are never going to please everyone.

If the postman left a note telling you to go the the sorting office to everyone, then he would be accused of being a jobsworth  - especially by people whom like me live on a quiet street and who leave a small porch area unlocked for this purpose. On the other hand if they sign for it or leave it tucked somewhere they regard as safe, then you get the officious customer who thinks they know it all and want to report the postie for being helpful.

I think it just goes to prove the old saying - you can please some of the people some of the time.......

I personally think the posties do a good job and am happy for them to leave my parcels in my porch, even if it does mean them signing for me.

if u do report the postman for failing to deliver then royal mail will have to prove the delivery. it may be that the postmand has shown that the package was posted through the letterbox and you would then have to dispute that and it would be very difficult to prove either way. it would be really unfair to expect the postman to be held to account for doing you a favour and a real shame for royal mail - i think they provide an excellent service - to be suffering as they are at the moment just for someone being a little human and trying to help out...please do not do something such as claim for a lost parcel that is not lost and if doing the right thing is not enough incentive hopefully the shame of having to face your postman when you have lied will be enough to encourage you to avoid reporting/lying about missing packages.

OP, at least your postie is delivering your items without complaint, he's doing you a favour. Our regular postie is quite scary sometimes and when he brings parcels or anything that requires a signature he complains to me that I've been buying stuff again and he has to deliver it!! He's been doing the job as long as I've lived here (13 years) and if he hates it that much I don't know why he doesn't pack it in. I actually hope it's a relief postie now when we get parcels, then I don't have to listen to the regular bloke complaining about having to deliver things!

lol i had the same sort of discussion the other day with a few managers
there are just posties who while berating RM and spouting hatred for everything RM quite simply dont know any other life
some posties have only ever worked for RM and while slating everything and moaning they would never leave RM
