Council Tax Banding reduction

I can't remember where this was originally posted, but after reading about Council Tax Banding I approached the Valuation Office and today they rang me to say they are reducing my band from C to B , AND it will be backdated !!!!!

Don't know how far back yet, but I have been here since 1991, so here's hoping.

I will post the figure I have saved when I have them.

Thank you MSE folks

If they reband they go back till April 1991. They should rebate you from when you move in.

Interested to know how you get on.

I used this web site https://www.VOA.gov.uk and found the house in my road in a lower tax bracket which had been extended hadn't been rebanded when it was sold. I complained to the council and they put me in touch with their valuation office.
They look at the value of your home only. They take into account what you paid for it, at what time and other simular properties in your area. You can go up as well as down.

Wow what an interesting thread. Trying to get your council tax banding reduced is something you wouldnt necessarily think of doing.

PP Glad you got something back for council tax.

I posted a couple of months ago. It's on cutting tax..

'Council Tax. Are you paying more than your neighbours. Check it out'.

Others have had lower bandings and refunds.

To all MSE's this is worth trying.
