Bin men are weak wristed wusses. They just aren't as strong as binmen in years gone by.
Poor things might break a nail tugging those heavy ol' wheelie bins.
We need real men to do the job.

I responded earlier in defence of the Bin man. I was hoping to be counter-responded to by certain contributees like Barneysmom. She didn't so I came looking!!!

Of course I'm serious. One objective in a refuse department is to reduce waste (we are running out of landfill areas) All councils now are promoting recycling. If this is done properly then there should be no need to overflow your bin to any degree.

Until councils/government recognise all recycling then this is rubbish (no pun intended). Currently, it is the householder who is bearing the brunt whilst factories/institutions/retailers seem less involved. Not one place I've worked at (including local gvt) has made any attempt to recycle the forest they get through daily. Factories will finish a line and rip open every item if it doesn't meet weight criteria (no attempt at selling discount). And we can all see the excessive packaging that retailers insist on. (ever bought a child's toy?)

As for domestic recycling - I bet if someone from each authority posted how their's is addressed we'd get a dozen different systems - maybe one will be outstandingly successful and the rest varying degrees of dismal. Mine is quite poor, but at least (yet) we don't have the bin lid mafia.

If this sexist behaviour continues I'll report it to the moderators and if no joy lodge a complaint to Ofcom.

we play our bin men at there own rules, it all started last year, on a friday we got a letter trough the door "starting soon new bin blah blah grey recycle burgundy rubbish.. we will let you know nearer the day when it will start" monday evening came home new burgundy bin... so tuesday bin day put out the grey bin as normal as we didn`t know when the new rules came about, came home EVERY grey bin in the area had a nice sticker on saying that the bin had the wrong rubbish in!! phoned up the council, "yes you should use the burgundy for rubbish the grey for recycle" BUT THE BIN ARRIVED MONDAY, so what are people to do empty the bin and sort it all out "yes" anyway after a load of us complained they came round on friday and emptied all the grey bin that had been left out all week, and gave every house a "rules" booklet, in it is said ... Please do 1. Put your bin at the edge of the property by 07.30am with the lid closed. so every tuesday our bin is at the EDGE of our property where as every other house takes there bin down to the main road, meaning one bin man has to make a special journey to our house to collect our bin, they did complain once, but we told then we`re just obeying THERE rules

we have lovely binmen (no women lol) we tip them at christmas and they collect excess waste when we have it (four adults and a little one in our house) we have two blue wheelie bins that are always full and at christmas with a little one you can imagine how much recycling we have what with all the toy boxes and wrapping paper but i always find with our bin collectors if you are nice to them they are very helpful
but saying that there is someone who lives down the road from us that puts all their rubbish out and it is not taken as its outside of the bin they refuse to take it and within a few days there are maggots and mouldy food all over the place and by the end of the week the council have to send someone to clean it all up (this happens every fortnight)

We're pretty lucky with our bin men. Normal rubbish collected weekly, recycling fortnightly. It's only me and my OH so we don't even need to take the rubbish bin down every week. Yes sometimes they leave the bin in front of the drive a bit but so what? When we get home from work one of gets out of the car to take it up the drive anyway. We've never had a collection missed and I've seen excess taken away too. They always do their best to make way for people driving out of the street, not easy in a smal cul-de-sac and they always smile and wave.
