We have to leave the bin at the edge of the drive, with the lid closed flat, no additional rubbish, and the handle facing the road, otherwise it will not be emptied..
Just so you know your council cannot refuse you another second bin to fill up if you produce more waste than will fill a single bin. There was a court case about this and the resident won.0 -
Well my bin men are lovely, always empty all the bins, and on recycling weeks empty all the containers as well. ( I do wish they wouldn't come at 6.30am on green weeks!!:rotfl: )
And this week they were handing out / putting though letter boxes to every house, a timetable of what on what days type leaflet, I just happened to be outside and took mine direct off the young man...........and oh to be at least 15 years younger and single, I got a cheery morning from him
and went all red.......................

Did he get lots of compensation.
Or did it actually never get to court so no legal precident was set?"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
You think you have it bad..... this is the style of houses in my street:
They gave us Wheelie bins.........
The steps go down to the pavement, where there is no room to store a bin at the bottom, so consequently every thursday evening you can sit and watch everyone tentatively hauling a full bin down a flight of stairs.
About 2 weeks ago I witnessed the lady down the road fall headlong down the steps whilst attempting this. She ended up in hospital.0 -
Know what you mean we been having some trouble with our bin men recently, apparently they do not have to pick up any bags that arent inside the actual bin. ''You want it moving , you get another bin'' in their words.
Disgusting really its not much to ask but anyways we forked out £33.50 for a new bin as it was extremely necessary having large family. After 4 weeks of wait and numerous phone calls they claimed they had delivered the bin and we were using it!
Turned out they were thinking the old bin was enough and we were trying to get another one out of them for free! The guy on the phone was very helpful and realised that it was an 'additional BOUGHT bin' as opposed to 'requesting a FIRST bin to the property'.
By the way if you have extra bags I think up to 10 you can arrange a day with the local council where they come pick them up for free if you dont fancy buying a new one or for one offs.0 -
Ouch that looks bad. I would hate to put a wheelie bin down there, and especially fi you are old or have health problemspulliptears wrote: »You think you have it bad..... this is the style of houses in my street:

Do you get a nice view from there, just curious0 -

Thats a bit extreme re the handle, as long as our bin lid is closed flat and at the bottom of the drive then it will be emptied, to the OP maybe you should contact the council and ask why your bin wasnt emptied0 -
If Councils want to fine us for putting the bins out on the wrong day, the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin etc then the Chief Executive and all Council staff should be fined for every missed collection. The man without a signature.0

I get that some council's are being bl**dy minded, and the picture of the house with steps is just a mad place to give a wheely bin to. But at risk of being flamed, why shouldn't we put our bins out with the handles facing forward?
We've only got one bin to put out a week, why shouldn't we make life easier for the bin collectors? My collectors would collect with the handle facing in any direction, but what's the problem with making someone's job a bit easier? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
