Bin Men Getting Even More Lazy

Know what you mean we been having some trouble with our bin men recently, apparently they do not have to pick up any bags that arent inside the actual bin. ''You want it moving , you get another bin'' in their words.
maybe you should loo into what actually goes into your bin if its that much0 -

We've only got one bin to put out a week, why shouldn't we make life easier for the bin collectors? My collectors would collect with the handle facing in any direction, but what's the problem with making someone's job a bit easier?
The problem is that it gets taken to the extremes of stupidity
Bin lid not closed = penalty
Bin more than 1 metre from curb = penalty, and bins placed on the pavement cause obstruction to pedestrians increasing risk of accident on busy main roads.
Bin full, extra bags piled on pavement not taken away - council refuse to issue 2nd bin
etc
etc0 -

I understand what you're saying Wig, but I blame the jobsworths who are higher up in the council and are probably married to the other person there who says that hanging baskets are a health hazard and stuff like that. I just feel sorry for the bin men and women who don't have one of life's loveliest jobs to start with, then get flak. I just want to make their lives a bit easier, don't give a stuff about their managers! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I agree, but it would nice if the bin men could show the same courtesty to the householder, by putting the bin to the side of the drive rather than blocking it so the householder can't drive onto the drive when they come home.
My husband used to have a postal delivery on an estate where every house has a garden gate. He used to go round just after the bin men had been and every bin was left directly in front of the gate. He had to shift up to 550 bins to deliver the post. He hated that delivery. Here I go again on my own....0 -
We had a letter earlier this summer saying that the pavements must not be blocked by wheelie bins, and therefore any bin that is put out more than 2 hours before the scheduled collection time, or left out 2 hours afterwards will be taken away, and we would have to pay a fee to have it back.
Of course, it seems to have escaped the council in cloud cuckoo land that many of us have jobs to go to during the day, and cannot realistically expect to sit around the house all morning once a week, every week, waiting for the bin to be emptied, and bring it in so it won't get impounded.
They have agreed to put this off for a few months for "consultation".If they start doing this, I will simply burn as much as I can (paper, plastics) so the bin does not go out as often.
We often now only get our bin emptied once a month, because if our collection day is a bank holiday, then bins are not collected so we have to wait for next fortnight, and there is no replacement collection - the contract has been let and cannot be changed according to the council.
Makes me wonder what I pay £2k of council tax for.0 -
Wh..Hey where do I start.
I started to read this thread and was intent on replying to each individual contributee with a certain amount of respect for their views, however after reading only a few posts I think what the Hell...
I am outraged by the views of some small-minded prigs who should keep their mouths firmly closed until they know the full details concerning what they obviously know nothing about.
How do I qualify to be so bold - I AM that weak wristed wuss!!!!! Bin-man, you are all too quick to judge!!!
Of course, in the dark ages the Bin-men carried the bins on their shoulders. It must have really hard emptying their 800 bin quota (per day) oh yes with a crew of approx 7 - 10 men plus a driver. It must have been really hard working the 3 hours it took to complete the days work before being allowed to retire to the boozer. Oh yes I forgot to mention the long 5 mile walk they did Every single day.
Now lets compare the binmen of today.....
How much easier it must be because now the bins have wheels - whoopy-bleedin-do!!!!!!!!!
What you don't see is the men don't do 3 hr shifts anymore its closer to 10. They don't empty 800 bins per day - they service an average of 2000 properties some of which are presenting more than one wheeled bin.
The crews have been reduced to 2 men and a driver and the daily leg workout is closer to 20 miles per day.
The people with the most to say are obviously equipped with very large behinds from sitting at their PCs thinking of who to rip to bits next, and I would love to see them manage a single day in the life as a bin man.
One other thing - the money is Crap also!0 -
Not everyone thinks its the bin men at fault, yes I appreciate its a hard job and not very good pay but then most jobs arent
The issue is we pay more and more council tax and people see less and less each year, its the council that is partly to blame but also the government for not given enough funding to many council who then have t ask for more money of CT payers
Of course councils responsibility is equally for the Health and safety of its workers but equally we are the customers and we demand a decent service. A fortnightly collection isnt ideal for its customers because they treats everyone more or less the same some only need a small bin larges families need a very large one. Equally some householders need help with there bins.
I know you bin meny often work weekends and it aint easy dealing with traffic also and irate drivers you still have a job to do
For the record I have no issues with my collection although I do with my council on another matter, ie the amount of traffics lights being put up and town gridlocked because of them0 -
I had always been happy with my bin collection, until one day, someone put an empty gallon glue container in my bin when it was on the street (one of my neighbours i guess and probably accidentally). It caused the bin to emain open by about3 inches.
For this they did not empty my bin.So it did not get emptied for a month. My local councillor contacted the council-but they still did not empty it.0 -

Do you think that bin-men don't pay council tax. Of course they do. And this goes towards a host of services - refuse collection being the least!
You are correct in that most jobs don't pay much anymore. I once worked at heights and was paid danger money. Theres no dangermoney here (regardless of the physical hard work - it was the hardest job I ever did) for the torrents of verbal and occasional physical abuse suffered daily. Of course we hold up the traffic, but then if we didn't then the streets would be flowing with rubbish.
Systems are in place in my own council whereas elderly, disabled and properties with problem access (eg long farm track or steep grass banking)are catered for.0
