Apparently you can get the same discount with a Matalan card?

The French line "LD Lines" is making some waves (or not) with their big new Tasmanian manufactured catamaran out of Dover.

It trims the journey time to Boulogne to an hour, making it competitive with the chunnel when the getting off point is that much further South. Pity booking in time is 45 minutes (I remember P&O officially getting it down to 20 minutes at one stage - in the days when they stuck a label on the windscreen and filmed you. Several times I've been able to board when arriving with only 10 minutes to spare)

LD has withdrawn its conventional Dieppe service.
The super sized catamaran is UK crewed, causing the potentially redundant French seamen to picket it.
(LD Lines proposed a merger with loss making Sea France, but talks fell through and LD Lines walked away, talking about opacity).
The introductory fares are in the region of 30 GBP each way according to the time of day - which is very reasonable for high season.

ANYONE USED THE NEW SERVICE - IS IT ANY GOOD ?

Just been one way Dover Calais with P&O and booking two days before.

Best fares through the ferry companies direct was £69 (2.5m x 4m van + 5).

Tripped over this website http://www.forcesfinancial.com/travel/ which claims to be a military and police specialist. At no point in the booking was I asked IF I was forces or police, and no mention on the booking. Held my breath at Dover, but treated as a normal booking.

Cost £32.00 for the lot, WITH a free entrance ticket to Disneyland on Top
    Very Happy

Yes - but it costs me a lot for them to make me proud!
  • Thank you for that link, it worked beautifully. I havent been asked for proof of employment, so I dont think they want it. It saved me £10.00, which on a fare of £117.75 is really good. (I take 2 dogs also, which is why it is so much)

124013]I've come across a link which offers an 8% discount off LD Lines ferries for East Sussex County Council staff.

Does anyone know if this would be restricted to those staff only, or whether anyone could use the link to get the discount, e.g. anyone finding it through Google, like me, or through this forum, like you :-).

Would you be required to show proof of employment for example either during booking stage or at the ferry point.

    Here's the link-aferry.com/eastsussex

    Thanks![/QUOTE]

Hello everyone, just been looking around and found this fantastic deal on ferrysavers.co.uk, just £19 for a return trip to France on a ferry! check this out, this fare is available on pretty decent timings as well.
  • Just a warning to anyone who books with aferry.com We booked a ferry with them several months ago, and then last month our car was stolen. Now they are charging us £15 to put the new details in. I don't want to say this is profiting from crime, but it seems rather like it. We certainly won't use them again.

That's possibly the most rubbish "warning" I've ever heard.
Oh come on, don't be silly.

I have in the past turned up in "the wrong car" and simply explained that the other one has "broken down" because the wretched thing would not start.
Getting charged the revision fee is probably down to the booking in clerk and at 05:00 AM on a cold dark morning, you can appeal for the sympathy vote and get it done free.
