I signed up for Tiscali broadband and home phone back in July. Since then internet and phone life has been hell. They are the most incompetent bunch of !!!!!!!s I've ever encountered. My internet works only when it feels like it. And now when I try to use my home phone there is a piercing screeching noise and it is not possible to dial out. When people try to call my Home Phone they hear it ringing their end, but it does not ring my end. They are able to leave me voicemails but I cannot retrieve the voicemails because of the screeching sound.
I've informed those incompetent !!!!!! at Tiscali but unsurprisingly they've been of no help.
Has anyone had any job getting out of their Tiscali contract early? I mean after all Tiscali are not providing me with proper service and therefore have already broken their end of the contract. Moving ahead, can anyone recommend a competent company to approach for broadband and home phone?

I know how you feel 'WhySoHard' my daughter has been having horrendous problems with the Tiscali phone/broadband/line rental package since January this year and has finally relented and gone back to BT for line rental.
She's not had broadband or phone since July and has been phoning and emailing nearly everyday but couldn't get any sense out of anyone.
BT will have it sorted by the end of the week!!!! :T0 -

So she basically broker her Tiscali contract in order to decamp to BT? That is the action I may need to take also0 -
Following the recommendation on MSE and because Tiscali appear to be the only company which will provide Broadband without an operational phone line in place (Virgin not being available on the new estate). I called the Salesline. David said it would take 4 working days for the phone line to be reactivated but a maximum of 10 working days from the order for the Broadband. I checked this twice with him at the point of order. A while after the phone line was operational I tried the 0871 order chasing number but it crashed when I put the phone number in - twice.
I spoke to the salesline again but they said 'Oh, no it's 10 working days from the phone line becoming active'. As that's now past I called the sales line again and it's now 12 days. I tried the Order chasing line where the message says 'if 14 days has been exceeded...plus another two to recieve the modem' then it put me on music hold for 15 minutes (still the 0871 number) where upon I gave up.
Can it be an accident that the number of working days to wait starts reasonably at the point of sale but increases at each point subsequently?0 -
this is tiscali you are dealing with, the only reasonable assumption is that sooner or later it will all end in tears, most likely yoursUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

See, its threads like this that make me wonder if I am with Tiscali at all. I've very rarely had problems with my service over the past 4 years and when I have, I have always spoken to polite well mannered service agents who do seem to know what they are doing and do what they say they are going to do. :undecidedWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

i do know people just like you, iwant....., those who make little use of streaming video, downloads etc., or accept that 'the internet' does indeed slow down for everybody at 5pm can find the service from, what to me would be the worst ISPs (tiscali, pipex, aol, tt, cpw, bt, orange etc), more than acceptableUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

To be honest, I am a very heavy internet user, I download every single day nearly 1GB (up to 1.3GB so far today lol) worth of video or music, I use it to watch films/tv online every night (OH choice of tv is pretty naff) or play games and I pretty much always get full speed unless there is an outage in the area but thats to be expected.
Over a year ago I did notice a slight difference on my downloads in the evening but now I consistently get around 500-550kps meaning I'm downloading a full film in about 28 mins.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
for every rule there has to be an exception, looks like you are it, though 30gb/month is, to me, still quite light, I like to average around 80, which is quite a drop from the 120+ that BT sent me nasty letters about back in the day.
you not experiencing any shaping problems? downloading via ssl newsgroups? forced encryption on torrents? esoteric ports?
c'mon, kitz still suggesting its shaped to hell and back, what's the secret?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I think I was shaped between 6-11pm slightly for a short time last year, it wasn't major though, just slightly noticable. Then they gave me a free upgrade to 8mb rather than 2mb and despite BT saying my line can only handle 3.5mb I get a sliver over 5mb and I stopped getting a lull after that.
I don't do anything special with my downloads, I do download from private sites but that just means its not a public one, my download at the moment is running fine at 330kps but thats because I've limited it rather than been shaped.

Im with iwanttosave on this one, im a heavy net user with ticali, I have both their wireless broadband and landline service and I have no issues at all.
tiscali would not be in buiness if their service was how the OP described for everyone who signed with them, he is the exception and unlike orange tiscali arent losing record numbers of customers in a short space of time.
The customer support people arent all knowing beings that know everything about the engineers, the exchange, or your computer, they can only tell you whats trickled down from the grape vine.
I've heard soooo much negative stuff about Tiscali lately that I am very surprised at your post.0
