Thanks but they are still down. If they do not get back to me by 9 who would be the next best for Southern Ireland please?

DHL wouldn't still be around if they weren't. Just make sure it is labeled correctly and packed very well.

    Thanks for the reply.

Their prices are the cheapest! That's why I've been wondering if they are serious about their job.

Well, my parcel has been collected by DHL, and as soon as the guy saw it he said I'd have to open it up, they are supposed to be left unsealed! Why couldn't that have been stressed to me when I arranged the collection by phone yesterday? He said I'd have to unwrap all the gifts, as they were going by plane and needed to be inspected beforehand. He ended up saying to open a few & after asking what was in the rest, said to leave them, but now the open box is on it's way to wherever they take it, the gifts have just been quickly put back in the box - nowhere near as neatly packed as I originally had it, & someone will be going through it all again before it's sealed! I hope everything arrives that should arrive - anybody could take something out of there! I don't think I'll be sending it that way again. OK, it was cheap compared to Royal Mail, but in the past a sealed box has been sent through them with none of this hassle. I know now it's because its going by plane, but I think I'll stick to snail mail in future!

Thanks for the advice from various people on this thread - just to update you it arrived safely at my parents home on Merseyside this afternoon, and everything is intact thankfully!

I still think it's a hassle to have to open everything for inspection when it's picked up, but it was a good price - at least I'll know in future!

    Thanks again & Merry Christmas!
    ;)

Well I managed to book with DPD this morning, before 9.30, and had an email saying that collection was booked for today. I stayed in and checked my emails at 4.20 to find another saying that they would collect on Monday.

I needed this collected today as it is for Christmas and emailed them 3 times to find out which was right but they never got back to me!!!!

Now I'm livid as it means that I have to stay in again on Monday and cancel my plans. Also I don't know if it will reach Southern Ireland in time for Christmas.

    I don't think that I would use them again.
  • sorry but DHL's irish service is 2-3 day so Wednesday or Thursday delivery so i guess your chances of xmas delivery are 50/50. if its a present for family and you hsvee to get it there then use transglobal dhl next day

    Hi

Well at least they responded but be aware that

    hi

""our man at dhl has advised us that for some services the cut off time gets changed to accomidate demand with the xmas rush, they had changed the cut off time for this service and hadnt informed us untill this afternoon""

    Many Thanks
  • I booked a parcel delivery to Southern Ireland at 10am on Friday morning using Interparcel for £17 & it was collected same day. Direct Parcel Distribution don't have an automated system so your relying on the guy to manually make the bookings. He was probably out doing his Xmas shopping when you made the booking. This guy is a one man band so response times are slow. Ask for a free service upgrade otherwise your parcel will not arrive before Xmas. I think Direct Parcel Distribution are amateur & need to improve.
  • Hi. I need 10 boxes of Mail Lite Envelopes picked up from London and delivered to Coventry. I can't imagine it weighing more than 15KG if that and measurements shoudn't be more than 41x31x22cm. Collection is an option but what a mission that woud be! What shall I do?

    Many Thanks

I'd contact (email or ring) these http://www.freightsearch.com and they should be able to get citylink to do it. As they charge per consignment, rather than per parcel which makes much more sense then using DHL and paying 10x £8.
