(magazines are a MAJOR obsession for me
I subscribe to delicious, good food and olive, plus I buy sainsbury's mag if I am in there, and often pick up other ones too. If its any consolation I subscribe using clubcard deals :money:)
I like Rick Steins Mediterranean one, but the latest one-Coast to Coast-is fabulous :j
Will hold off on Jamie for now, maybe see if local library has it (don't hold out too much hope though-its pretty rubbish) Biggest problem is, if I buy a new book I have to get rid of an old one :cool:0 -

I think it is a great book for me personally as there are things that are basic that I have never made from scratch and I got it cheap while I was still working.. I would recommend just going to the library and either getting it out or copying things in a notebook. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I got it and don't think it's too basic at all - i can cook a lot of things from scratch but his versions are different than how i do them,
He also has recipes for making your own curry paste.
All the recipes are pretty simple and not too time taking.
I agree . Also not everyones Mums could cook. Mine used to make shepherds pie from M&S tinned mince way before Delia...What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
I too have cooked for years and yes the recipes are written for those who dont have a clue how to cook.
However, I have just cooked roast chicken and my daughter who absolutely hates gravy cant get enough of it, it has completely changed her outlook on it so was worth buying just for that.
I already have planned to make the leek and something stroganoff midweek and will see how we go.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Hotcookie,
I cut back on a lot of my mags but do tend to buy Sainsburys mag when I am in there the last coupla months as I find it quite a bargain for recipes. something to read and the tokens too. I have even had free beer and free pomegranate and mango juice (worth £4) as well as cover gift of chocolate.
I don't tend to shop there much myself - only when T doesnt have something as it is a longer walk and also more tempting to buy stuff as the stuff there is really nice. But it is a bargain at £1.40 for a nice treat when I do.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

You see-thats what I said, but for some reason my OH doesn't think its such a good idea :rotfl::rotfl:Currently have a kitchen cupboard full of them, but considering moving some of the prettier ones onto bookshelves in living room! Is that bordering on obsession lol
I have tried to cut back on my mags-I no longer buy rubbishy ones like new woman or cosmo! I get them with my clubcard deals, (plus gadgety ones for me and OH, national geographic etc) so I sort of think of them as "free" now
I know they aren't, but I just LOVE getting them through the door each month, especially delicious as it is delicious! I usually cut recipes out (have a lever arch file full of them, plus various sheets floating round) but sometimes there is so many good ones the mag gets kept. Sainsbury's is good, but I don't usually shop there so is an effort to get-but it's so cheap maybe I should make the effort (the mag, not the shop)
I also use the internet a lot for recipes, but I tend to read my cookbooks and get ideas that way rather than following a recipe religously0 -
Hot if there is anything you see browsing through Ministry of Food in a shop ro something I have a lot of time on my hands now I am not working and dont have a large home to keep or family to tend to/cook for so I would be happy to type it up and email it to you..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
