hi,
jamie oliver is on a mission again, he is trying to take a whole town back to old style cooking! he has already visited several families that buy 4 takeaways a week and do not know how to cook. looking forward to watching him take them back to basics!for anyone that misses it it should be on 4 on demand tomorrow.
It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.

Watching this just now - very interesting to say the least! Very surprised at the volume of take aways people have. Hope they all succeed. It is really quite sad to think these children have not had a good nutricious meal - or some of them never even sat at a table. The meal doesnt need to cost much - as we know - but to sit on the floor eating with their fingers is really quite an eye opener. Bring back cooking in the schools would be a start!

I can't understand how they can afford it on benefits either - its much cheaper to cook your own so lets hope they learn how.
Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.
  • Feel v sorry for some of those kids being made to eat that sh*te all the time!!

I do think it's definitely down to our mum's to help us learn to cook. My mum never "taught" me to cook but I remember being in the kitchen while she cooked for the whole family every single night. My daughter is 6 and spends most evenings in the kitchen while I'm cooking doing her homework etc and hopefully picking up some tips! Tonight she helped me make a tabulah salad for school and work lunch tomorrow and loved just chucking the bits in (and eating half of it while my back was turned!!)

I think the programme is a great idea if it works but seems to be focusing a bit much on young mum's which gives an unfair picture!

I will be looking for new recipes!

Thats just what I said, I work full time and I couldn't afford takeaways four times a week let alone once a fortnight. I can't wait to see how it all works out for them, think I'm gonna be glued to this series.

aww - the mam who got all upset when she realised what she'd been feeding her kids and why (because it was easier) I cook almost every night after what are usually 12 hr days. Its difficult but I feel better than when I occasionally eat sandwiches or other junk for a few days.
