That Julie woman is really hogging the program today - she now is not so sceptical about the idea, wonder if thats cos she's getting more airtime.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

Another non-Julie fan here, but I do wonder if she is right? I can't see any sign (so far) of this being a major sucess? Loved seeing Margurite Patten though - wonderful lady. I expect I'll be proved wrong (I normally am)...0

Last nights programme was filled with swearing. Even I was shocked
I was watching it with my 2 year old (who was in bed next to me refusing to sleep...but that's a whole other thread....see 'Free 2 year old, collection only') and he turned to me & started repeating 'f*cking'!!!

I have had a huge Marguerite Patten cookery book since I first got married in 1971.
It covered all aspects of cooking and what ingredients to keep in your store cupboard etc.
I taught myself to cook from that book and really loved it.
As for Jamie, he has taken on a mammoth task. You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.Felines are my favourite

Maybe that's why it's shown after the watershed. Jamie did say on the Jeremy vine show last week that week three had very strong language and not to watch if you were easily offended.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -

Aah, I didn't see that as I'm normally in bed by 8! (or is Jeremy Vine on in the morning? Actually...who is J. Vine??)
I just find it odd that a programme aimed at educating people about cooking will be shown at such a time, & with such language. Do they do an edited version in the afternoons?0 -
J Vine is on Radio2, every weekday 12-2.00 discussing topics of the day. Martin's often on his show, on a Friday, as well.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

The idea of making it possible for 'unmarried mothers' to keep their babies was a humanitarian one. What it has created as a by product is this cycle of deprivation and benefit culture.
It's all such a shame - not to mention a waste of people's lives.
Statements like this are more deplorable than shovelling deep fried gizzards into your kids every night. Because it's saying that's an inevitable thing...
I am a single mother. Of one (very little) one. I work full time (privately rented, no housing benefits) and live alone with her, so admittedly, money is tight and time is even tighter.
But she gets a healthy, home cooked dinner every night. She's only 10 months old but eats a hearty meal every night. I either cook something she can eat - a spag bol, unspicy curry/chilli, jacket potatoes, fishcakes, etc. - or raid the freezer. Due to the time constriction, I tend to do a big 'cook' for her every other weekend, freezing baby-sized portions of her favourites so that even if I am rushed off my feet, she can have a mummy-prepared meal.
Yes, she's had a Happy Meal (spat most of it out, put the box on her head). And she'd probably eat pizza every night if she could - but then so would I.
It's not always about money, or your circumstances. It's often about priorities and skills - my mum and nan were both dab hands in the kitchen and so am I. And I think what we eat is important, and try to make it good for us. And it'd be the same whether I was married or single I suppose!Best wins: Luxury weekend in Russia, family holiday to France, catered BBQ for 20, Selfridges shopping spree, jolly to Majorca, £1,000 See Tickets vouchers, £500 John Lewis vouchers, five-star weekend in Provence!

I watched the 3rd(?) episode last night and I thought Clair was fab! What a turnaround from last week's programme.
Julie is really stirring it. I don't like her.0 -
I am so addicted to this programme - being a huge Jamie fan but one thing I do not understand - if Jamie Oliver would have shown up in my area he would have been inundated with people - I'd have pretended to be a single mum non-cooking unloved orphan to get a free cooking lesson from himself!!! Saying that if any chef turned up here i'd be beating a path to them, it seems to be he should have got more free press coverage - using the local free newspapers and printing his "weekly recipe", gone into local schools and got them cooking - kids are the heart to reaching parents
As for the lovely Julie - i can't make my mind up about her - she's a bit like marmite - love her or hate her - yes she is a trouble maker - why did she force herself into the classes??? she can already cook
I am feeling quite proud of myself, have taught DDs friend how to make fairy cakes and another how to make a simple pasta and tom sauce dish, given them a copy of the recipes too, told them to show Mummy how to do it....i am so in trouble when i collect DD from school tonight lol!0
