  • The ones that come to mind are Jacob's Cream Crackers and Patak's curry pastes.

It's more likely to be that these items are generally available, but Sainsbury Value Crackers only at Sainsbury's :D He may want to be able to duck the accusation of being in bed with Mr S, too  :rotfl:

    I use Patak's curry pastes, and they're excellent :T

  • I have been having trouble with my yorkshire ouddings so for the past 3 or 4 years i have brought (Hang my head in shame) aunt bessies frozen ones you cook your self. So when i got the minsitry book i tryed Jamies and it works great i am producing the biggest yorkies ever and the mixture works really well for frog sausages too (Toad in the hole). I know jamie Oliver has his faults but, i've made quiet a few recipes from this book and found them to be really easy and not too airy fairy.

To be fair, he does give you recipes to make your own pastes if you prefer (I do).

I made the Chicken Korma last week, it was fab, but too many chick peas, I will use half a tin next time.

One thing puzzles me, it says to buy 500ml of yogurt & them tells you to stir in 2 tablespoons:confused::confused::confused:

I read & reread it, I can't find what to do with the other 3/4 of the tub:rolleyes:

    Anyone else notice this?

I've made his yorkies, I prefer mine cooked a little lower & longer, but nice eggy recipe.

I've got the chicken tikka massala on now (DH is late) & its as good as the better curry houses, even better than his korma last week:j :j :j

I've also got the stew on for tomorrow, did beef & ale:D

I made the pea & bacon & mint pasta last night, it was OK, I think I would prefer it without mint. Mint can give things a toothpasty taste unless its with vinegar on lamb;)

I'm doing the Paella on Friday:D

I would substitute breadcrumbs (once I've found out how much half a packet of crackers weighs.)

When you find out will you post back on here.

I would rather use breadcrumbs too.

Jacobs crackers come in two sizes.
    200g and 300g
    Which isn't helpful.
  • There is a follow up article on the 'Ministry of Food' in todays Observer Food Monthly magazine:

I got this book for Christmas and I am really chuffed with it :D

I'm not a great cook but have been trying to learn recently and I've been trying some different things. Jamie's book is really good because it shows me how to make the simple things well as well as some more 'fancy' things when I feel up to it.

Does anyone else have this book? I am going to make one of the recipes tonight for dinner but haven't a clue what one to make yet, too much choice!
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

    Hi Drea,

There's an earlier thread with lots of discussion about the book and the recipes that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.
