Thanks to everyone who has posted idea and tips - I have 4 pages saved into Word documents for candy canes/reindeer poop/snowman soup etc - they are going to be great for hampers and kids stockings :T

  • my 15 cones arrived an hour ago, and Ive already made my 7 cones!!! I want to make more!!!!!!!!!!!

They worked out at 80p each (minus the curling ribbon as I had some knocking around) and that was using cadburys hot chocolate (so could have done it cheaper!) and each hold 2 servings.

I havent got any candy canes yet, but might leave them out as they look good enough as they are (if I do say so myself :D)

EDIT: just had a look on the tesco website and to use tesco value hot chocolate would have saved me an extra 7p per cone, I think the cadburys choclate was worth the extra 7p :)

also while I was on there looked at the individual sachets of cadburys, saved 3p per cone by buying the large jar, but the main reason Im posting about the sachets is they were 29p each (twin pack) or 3 for a £1  hmmmm!! not very moneysaving!! :rotfl:
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!
  • As I am thinking of doing away with the candy canes what does everyone think of this to go on the labels?

When the kids have gone to bed
And you have a moment for you
The pair of you can put up your feet
And enjoy this treat for two

I am going to get a couple of mugs to put with it (possibly xmas ones as I picked some up for instore last year for 50p each) and give them to my friends who all have little ones!

The cones listing says to ask for a discount if you're buying more than one item. I am fine paying the cone price - it's the postage fee that gets me - I want 4 packs, and am sure it wont cost £3.10 in p & p charges? Have been cheeky and asked for a discount!!!!! Otherwise I'll buy only half, and use cellophane to wrapthe powder from a roll.!

I only ordered 15 from him and they arrived in a normal paper envelope so I agree the p&p charges are slightly overcharged (besides they took 10 days to arrive, he is not the fastest in posting them).
I like the idea your suggesting of using normal cellophane. I got a large roll left over from the baskets I did last year

They do them in differant amounts! You can buy 15, 25 or 50.

I got an e-mail back from the Canadian company and their costs are less per cone but sadly they do not post outwith Canada and the US!

If I ever buy several items from the same ebay seller I send them an email asking for a combined invoice and say I'll pay asap once I've received the invoice. Gives the seller the opportunity to review the p&p charges and amend. I sometimes have sellers charge me the same p&p for several items as they are charging for 1 item so big savings! I agree £1.50 postage is ridiculous for a few bits of cellophane but I couldn't find the cones elsewhere.

What about investing in something like this
    http://www.getabagsealer.com/heat-sealer-order.html

I'm sure with a bit of practise, we could whip up our own cones & other packaging from cheap sandwich bags & bits of cello  Would come in handy for bags of mixed veg & things in the freezer too :D & to stop me eating a whole bag of maltezers in one sitting :j

  • I have GOT to get one of those!!!! There are so many things I'd use it for- thanks, BigMummaF
