I have a £200 limit on mine which is useless. I work abroad so I wanted a CC to use in case of emergencies and that was the best I could get when I originally applied about 4 years ago. I tend to have about £400 credit on it just to make sure that I have enough to get a plane ticket home or whatever.
I do occasionally spend the money and pay it off again but I don't think I have ever had my account reviewed. I do have another credit card with a more realistic limit so I amn't too bothered about it.0 -
I'm retired, with little to no credit history, I mostly pay cash for everthing, nevetheless I applied for a CapitalOne card because peviously I had been turned down by Barclaycard. I was quite suprised when the CapitalOne card dropped through my letterbox with a £1000 credit limit. I've only had the card for 2 months so can't say what their criteria is for increasing your credit limit. I think if you pay the minimum amount on your first 3-4 payments you're far more likely to get an increase than if you pay the maximum amount. If you pay off the balance every month it costs them money to maintain your account, if you pay the minimum they're making money off you and more likely to encourage you to spend more ... that's the theory at least. My strategy is to spend no more than £500 of my £1000 credit limit, paying the minimum amount for the first 4 months and hope for an increase. Increase or no increase, after those first 4 payments I will revert to paying off the full amount each month because their APR is crippling and If I do get an increase, I won't be holding my breath to get another for a very long time.0

Aye, 14 Months ago.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Had my Capital One card for over 5 years, starting limit was £200. I used the card every month to buy my fuel, and paid it off in full at the end of each month. They have never reviewed the limit - I wrote to them asking for an increase, the reply was that they don't do it on request, but only when they review! So I asked why I hadn't been reviewed, the reply was my card account was one that doesn't get reviewed for limit increases!
Anyway, as I now have other credit cards (all with decent limits), today I called up Capital One and cancelled my account, and told them exactly why. They tried to put me through to some kind of retentions department (where I suspect they might have offered me a limit increase to try and keep me?) but before they could I told them that my mind was made up, and I just wanted to cancel the card, full stop.0 -
I've got a Capital One limit of £600. And have done so for 8 or 9 years
No idea why it's not increased and whenever I speak with CS agents (1 just last week) they also seem surprised. In fact the guy from last week seemed very surprised.
Strange thing is I use it to the max every month as it's my online card and it's always cleared and usually I overpay just to make sure. I've now got my son on the card (for emergency use) so will be interested to see if they increase the limit now since there's been a change to the account.
It's all a bit strange especially when you consider I dumped some money into their Capital One savings account just to show them I'm a good customer. I'm not bothered but since I've been reading this great forum I have more options with cards so I will use the Capital One much less in the months to come.
I remember in the late 1980s your card bill used to turn up with £1000s added to the available balance without them asking. I know that's stopped (good thing) but Capital One's policy of not wanting to speak about increasing limits is strange. I reckon it's something they maybe put (or used to put) on the account when it first opened. I think I've had my card 8 years (never a problem -not even close) so perhaps things have change now.0 -
