    I just did my bestest run ever :j :j :j :j

I was unsure of whether to stick with 25 mins or extend to 28 (I'm counting yesterday as a blip) as I've been on 25mins for a while, but so far haven't managed to do 3 runs in a row with only one rest day in between. But after 25mins I felt fine, so went for 28. Then I didn't want to stop running, so actually did 30  :j I still felt like I could continue, but I didn't want to push too hard so I stopped.

In total, I did just over 4k. I ran at 8.4km/h for a bit, then dropped it down to 7.8km/h for most of it, and increased to 8km/h for just over the last 5 mins. How fast does everyone else with a cushy stupid treadmill run? I also burnt 310 calories, including my warm up and cool down walks.

LOL I do 5 mins warmup at 6.4 kilometres per hour, fast walking, then run (well, jog but fast enough!) for 30 mins at 9kph, then another five mins' warmdown at 6.4kph. Usually do 5.5km over the 40 mins.

Well done juno - I'm really looking forward to road running as I want to get out of the gym completely now. Slowly getting some exercise equipment together, and plan to run, cycle, swim and play racquet sports in the summer, and in winter run and cycle when I can, supplementing with swimming and possibly a treadmill if I can get a good one. I cannot stand the gym and am only using it to get fit!! Staying fit is going to be a bit of a challenge....!!

I also want to be able to regularly run 10k, if I can do that twice a week and some weights I think that will be sufficient exercise to keep me up together! :0)

All the best everyone and keep on running! xx
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

  • pfft gyms are really only good for wieghts. I hate running on a treadmill out on the open road is better and i dont care if people see me walking! treadmills are good for workouts on rest days though :P

week 3 ends for me on saturday! oh er now im getting scared haha!

  • Well thats it week 5 over and out. 20 minutes in one go - boy am I gonna sleep tonight. Even though this nearly killed me, I am glad I've done it. I was ready to stop at the 8 minute mark but carried on regardless.

Anyone know what is in store for week 6? Do I dare to ask?

Keepyourchinup - I am another treadmill runner I'm afraid. I am thinking of venturing out when I can actually run for any length of time (and also when the weather improves!):undecided

i did my 30min run tonight! such an achievement and it wasn't half as bad as i thought it was going to be. we started on 1 december and now we've finished. feeling a bit like, "what now?" but think we'll just keep running the 30mins for a month or so and then try to run for more

Grats on that Your next goal if you are not doing it is to actually run the 5k now you can run 30 mins. Otherwise why not head for 10k?

Im all done with week 3 :j

I'm not really against treadmills I just like to poke fun.

Just thought I'd pop in and see how you are all doing :)

Well done to everyone! Some people have made it :D although I got bored with it I'm still quite proud because I have maybe encouraged other people to do something they love which makes them feel good.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • OOh, this is so exciting, but I can't read 35 pages!!! I've been regularly walking 3-4 miles a day, and have lost 5 1/2 stone, but I've hit a wall. So, want to start running. Was going to hit the street today, but raining so heavily, rather than give up, I went to the gym and did 5Km on the treadmill, at 6.5/7 speed. I think the treadmill actually has its place in setting my speed.

Anyway, what's this podcast thing? Is it music to run to? I'd love a sequence of good tracks.

All help and advice, gratefully received! I'd love to think I could actually RUN 5K! And maybe even hit target weight!! Awesome idea!

The podcast is a music file that you can put on your mp3/ipod player, in this case we use roberts and he tells you when to run and stop with music in the background, i find it is much easier than trying to use a stopwatch to time your self as you only have to listen and concentrate on running.

On another note you shouldnt worry about your wall, running wont necesarrily make you lose wieght, in fact you could 'put' it on as your bone density changes to adapt to the exercise but you will still shrink as you will tone up.

The thing is it really is better to lose weight slowly than crash as it is more likely to stay of that way. to lose wieght and keep it off requires a lifestyle change which sounds like this is what you have done. Althought i have never been significantly over wieght i have observed my parents who have done crash diets and exercise however they havent kept it up and lately i have tried to coax them into reducing their portion sizes. But hey you do what you think is best for you but the last piece of advice i can give is that if you decide to do couch to 5k is follow the plan strictly as it gives your
bones time to build. I know this because i nearly over did it last week.

    GL and keep posting

btw 6.5/7k walk speed is fast!! even if your 6 foot

  • Ha ha, everyone complains I walk too fast, and they can't keep up, even when i was at my heaviest. Yes, I gave up dieting, you're absolutely right, I now eat porridge and honey, spinach, chicken advocado (even though some criticise me for the fat in it!) egg whites, fish veg and fruit, mostly. I've changed what I eat and upped the exercise, 5 1/2 stone has taken, 18 months - but there's no going back!

i downloaded week 1 of the couch thing, but it sounds like all techno music, is it all like that? It'd drive me a bit mad! maybe at 44 I'm too old for that music!

Oh, and because I had a problem walking, which turned out to be an infected lymph from a mosscito bite, I had a scan which also said my bone density was really good! Apparently the only benefit from carrying all that excess weight around for a few years! funny eh!
