Hi everyone - I'm looking for some advice. I need to buy some running shoes (and luckily I just won £65 or else I wouldn't be able to afford any). Really can't spend more than this but would be great if they were cheaper. I need advice as this will be my first pair of running shoes. I really need support for my back as I had a back injury a few years ago. Would love to go to a running shop to get a proper analysis but am worried I'll end up spending a lot more than I can afford. Can anyone suggest any tips?
Thanks!!2019 Wins: Feb: £10 Aldi Voucher, Frankie & Benny's meal for 2; May: Game from Maynards. June: 2x tickets to Foodies Festival July: £100 September: £30; October: £1000, Goldfinch Merch Pack
Thanks those who post Comps0 -
I haven't done any running this weekend... I planned going yesterday, but then ended up working in the garden all day and today was out to garden centre to get some more bits and cleaning the house.
I won't be able to do it tomorrow either, so it is only Tuesday when I am back to running!
I am interested in shoes as well - I am planning to buy proper running shoes when I finish week 4... At the moment I am just using my casual trainers, which are not great really. So, I am also interested to hear any tips about choosing the right pair!
I might go to a running shop to get mine, but I don't want to spend more than I have to. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind the Nike ones that you can get to use your iPod with (is it Nike+?).Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

Hello, I'm back again. I've been off on holiday for a week and didn't get any running done at all. My ankle played up again and finally yesterday I could kneel down without it be sore so I reckon it's finally back to normal. (couch to GP averted!). I think having the time off and giving myself time to rest my ankle worked so it wasn't a total loss. Yay I can get back to the gym now :T0

My experience of running shops is pretty good, generally - they don't try and upsell you - tell them what your budget is and they'll get you to try shoes you can afford. £65 isn't a small amount of money, they should have several pairs at that pricepoint you can try.
Getting a gait analysis is well worth doing, even if you decide not to buy from that store and get some cheaper online etc - although, personally, I'd feel a bit mean doing that...You *can* also work out what sort of shoes you should wear by looking at the wear pattern of your shoes, the shape of your footprints etc - but nothing compares with actually going and trying the things on.
And £65 is a lot to spend, so you wanna make sure you get the right thing.0 -
Zulubabe, Idiophreak is right, go to a reputable shop and tell them your budget and let them help you find the right thing. The worst thing in the world would be to spend the money on what turns out to be 'fashion' trainers that will be no good to you at all.
I am debating trying again tomorrow - still got some aches and pains but hoping they are in the range of 'normal' rather than extraordinarybut think I'll be back at the 20 min if that...hope you do ok too peppop

Hi all, just checking in. Well last week i only managed 2 runs (conveniently missing the final 20 min run for week 5). So I'm doing week 5 AGAIN!! I'm concentrating on the second run - 2 eight minute runs which I managed ok yesterday. I will do two more of them and on friday i will try the 20 min run again!!
Good luck all, hope BelfastGirl23, Teachergirl, you both are feeling better and will be able to run again soon.
Welcome back Peppop, did you have a good holiday? I think I need one now and I only went away to Dubai mid January!
Good luck Ginvzt on your run today... hope it goes well.
Wish me luck for my Friday 20 min run

Gopppers - Thanks for asking I don't know if it was good - we spent it talking to bank managers / estate agents / bathroom fitters and trying to decide whether to move house just now or wait till OH finds a better job first rather than after. TBH I was actually looking forward to getting back to work.
If I'm right there's footie on the TV tonight so off to the gym for me :j0 -
Hello again everyone. I managed to run again today. I wasn't too sure because I really am still not feeling 100% but I am worried about losing my motivation. It was a lovely sunny day so I decided to try week one again. I also decided it was dry enough to run on the fens near to my house. BIG MISTAKE. Saw several people I know. I don't mind telling people I've been running because that sounds like I am really fit but the sight of me with my wobbly bits huffing and puffing along is another thing entirely:D(Have not got my sports bra out of the packet yet.)
I will run again Friday...will be thinking of you GOPPERS.
At the moment I still run in my bog standard trainers,In fact I think they are my daughters cast offs but so far they have been fine.
How is your purple foot JUNO ? What did the sports massage person say Belfastgirl23 ?
Keep going everyone. What happens when you get to the end of week 6????Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -
Best of luck GOPPERS!
I did Week 4 Run 1 yesterday!!!!! I am so happy. I won't lie, it was hard. The 5 minutes after only 90 sec walking, barely got my breath back, but I persevered and I did to the end! I kept wallking for much longer after runs (also, because OH was in the gym and we were going out for a meal afterwards as well). So, I did total of 40 minutes and I covered the distance of over 4 km.
Now I need to repeat my run tomorrow! If all goes well, I will be booking to get my 'gait analysis' and running shoes on Friday.
Teachergirl - last run in week 6 is 25 minute run!!!! And the whole of week 7 the same, week 8 it is 28 minute run, and week 9 - 30 min!!!!! Really scary!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
