Hey - what is happening !!!! It is becoming from "couch to 5km" to "couch to GP" thread! I hope we all feel better soon...

I didn't manage to run last night - I have my piano lessons on Monday, so it is running tonight. I am determined I won't let the headache/migraine to stop me. Just need to stock up on paracetamol.

I am deciding now should I do another Week 2 run, or give it a try for Week 3 run 1. I have about 10 hours to make my mind up!

Juno - I am impressed with your weight loss!!!! Only if I was that strong minded when it comes to it. I need to loose about 27kg to reach my ideal weight (~60lbs), but I just love my food and cakes. And I love cooking and baking, so that doesn't help. And my husband loves cooking... Oh well, I hope running will give me a good start. I need to loose at least 8kg (~18lbs) in the next two months, as if we don't I won't be getting NHS referral for IVF, so it would be very un-MSE.

    I'll write it again.......

Hello all and welcome to those who are starting and good luck. A quick update from me, sorry not had much chance to post but have been lurking in the background...!

Last week was week 5 for me, the first 2 runs were ok then I attempted the dreaded 20 min run on Friday. I managed the first 15 had to slow down as i think I had pulled something in my left leg, and my left leg seemed to get really tired. I did a 2 minute reovery and tried to finish the last 3 mins with running but I seemed to lose rhythm so just did a brisk walk to finish off. Was really disappointed as I was determined to do the 20 min run but it wasn't to be. I only even managed to finish my workout with a 15 min workout on the cross trainer as well(normally a 30 min workout). I think I was having an off day. :o(

Anyway, new week, fresh start, I'm re-doing week 5 starting this wednesday. And this time i'm determined more than ever!

Good luck to all for those who are still running.

    Gops x

PS I'll swap with you Juno, if you like :o)

I did it!!! I did Week 3 run 1 last night and I have no headache!!! Result.

I was surprised that I managed to do it - it was not much of a struggle. I think it is time to 'up' the speed!

    Well done ginvzt.
Sadly it is definately couch to GP for me. Still feeling really lousy and I've got earache and numerous other symtoms too yucky to repeat. Can't get off the sofa let alone go for a run. Today will be the first day I have had off of work for years.(they sent me home yesterday.):(
To add to my misery I have put a pound in weight on despite all my exercise. ( I think my body is up the creek.) :( I will just have to be careful that I don't comfort eat.
I might even swop with you Juno ...purple foot...sounds grim. I hope it is getting better.
How are you doing Belfastgirl23 I really hope you have not got sciatica it is the most painful thing in the world. I had it for nearly two years and then they had to operate on my spine. This cured it but you really want to avoid an op. It is a condition where you really do have to try and rest it out. So heres hoping it is just a muscle twinge.
Well done Goppers. keep up the good work.
Anyone else been for a run lately??????
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

I'd advise against upping the speed, really - it puts a lot more stress on your body and increases the risk of injury somewhat. You're better off sticking with the slow pace until you're running your target distance (ie 5k), *then* starting to tinker with the pace...Hopefully by then your body will be better prepared to cope with the extra stress...

Thanks for that! I better stay at what I am now then. Well, maybe another 0.5km/h over over the next couple of weeks, no more!

    Where is everyone?

I did Week 3 Run 2 last night. It was harder than the first one, but I am blaming my shoes for that - I had a different ones on!

Hi everyone, just dropping in to say hello and well done ginvzt.

Alas my sore bum has not gone away and has sort of moved to being a pain in my hip - sort of like it needs to click. It isn't really terrible or anything but I think it's throwing my whole alignment out and I'm getting odd sympathy pains in my ankle and in the other leg as well :o which is a real pain because I'm heading away for the weekend and was relying on running to try to stop myself from putting on any weight.

I have made an appointment with a sports massage person who comes very highly recommended but since I'm going to be away I can't see him till the Tuesday after next. I knew I should have gone to see him before and now my introduction to him is going to involve talking about my bum :o still apparently he is fantastic so fingers crossed that will sort it out.

Hope all you weekend runners do well and do make sure to stretch afterwards!
