I'm amazed that apparently, the ambulances, fire engines and police cars in the Wisbech area of Cambridgeshire, have to be driven at least 70 miles to the nearest council MOT centre in Norwich according to the list . No wonder my taxes are so high.

The council MOT centre for Northumberland on the list is wrong too. The correct addresses and phone numbers for the 3 centres are:
Tyne Mills Workshops
Hexham
NE46 1XL
Telephone: 01670 623746
Stakeford Workshops
Stakeford
NE62 5TR
Telephone: 01670 622937
Lionheart Workshop
Alnwick
NE66 2ER
Telephone: 01670 6243920 -

POLICE vehicles are not required to have a MOT
It is not unknown for the Fire and Rescue Service to MOT their own vehicles - indeed it is possible their workshops are open to members of the general public for independent MOTs also...
.. and some Ambulance Services do exactly the same

Always check whether the council MOT centre has started to undertake repairs. I have used the one in Bath for a number of years, so was annoyed I found a couple of years ago that they had started doing repairs, (clearly as a way of offsetting their own overheads). I felt this change negated the point of choosing what had hitherto been quite evidently an unbiased service. Having said that I have found absolutely no reason to doubt their integrity and so I still use them, but it rather took the shine off the fundamental thought that they had no vested interest in finding faults. After all, in these days of pressure on council budgets it only takes a change of manager and a bit more pressure to raise income .......!0

Hi, I noticed the Cheap Council MOT article over Xmas when I was searching for somewhere to get my car MOT'd in the New Year. I live in Cardiff, so I looked on the list and found Cardiff Council’s Central Transport Services. I booked my car in for an MOT last week and waited whilst they worked on it. I honestly didn't know this was a service the council provided. I got talking to the workshop manager to find out what else they do and as a result, I've booked my Motorhome in for an MOT and wash next month. I wanted to share my experience, as I am a firm believer in sharing good customer service. I received a fair and honest MOT test and only charged me £45. I've shared their details below for anyone in the Cardiff area :money:

The Stonehaven local council test centre that is listed on your website doesn't offer a discounted MOST. I phoned them today and was quoted £54.840

The 3 council centres in Northumberland still aren't listed.0

I took my Car to Camden Council MOT services last week and it was failed because they claimed it had a tyre below the minimum legal tread depth of 1.6mm and a distorted wheel ( visible when spun). Having had over 30 years of experience with car MOTs, I would never have put the car in for test with an illegal tyre, so I had serious doubt.
A few days later I took the car to National Tyres for an MOT check, and apart from a defective wiper blade, the car was perfectly roadworthy. In fact, they measured the tread depth of the alleged illegal tyre, and found it to be 3mm.
I cannot fathom why Camden Council got this so wrong. They do not offer repairs, so to make incorrect claims had no benefit. However they charge the full MOT rate with no discount.0 -
St.Helens, Merseyside council MOT centre is missing from the list on the article:
The MOT station, based at the Hardshaw Brook depot in Parr Street, is open Monday to Friday, 7:30am -4:00pm.
Tel: 01744 676753.
The test costs £40 for both cars (class 4) and light commercial vehicles (class 7) and if a vehicle fails and a retest is needed, there will be no charge for a retest.0
