Well I was on the phone to someone else, and they rang back and left a message saying " the manager is sorry, he has to be in a meeting now so has asked me to call you back, he would like to offer you another 15% off the total price of the bathroom as an apology so we will refund £90 back onto your card and we will attemp to get the bath to you in April" :D

I'm quite chuffed with that as a starting point :)

Personally I would say 15% is a good gesture and leave it at that provided they deliver in April.

yep a very good outcome, thanks for your help. If they don't deliver in April then we will take it from there. Even better considering we're not actually in a rush for it!

  • And finally Bungalow Project - is that Shimmy? No updates either?

I am indeed the guilty party !

Not much has happened lately, well lots of small things that are not worthy of photographs !

We had a window quote ! it was massively under :o what i expected so now deciding if we should go ahead or hold back for a while (original plan) The shed has been put up and a wall cupboard hug in the kitchen !

Infact i will put a shed and cupboard update on the blog ;)

Thats a great job you've done there Andy :)

Nothing much doing here although we are continuing to plan our bathroom. Current thoughts are for travertine on the floor and then ceramic tiles on the walls. We are going to do it over the long weekend in April. But that leaves us a fairly large dilemma. If we tile the floor then we cant walk on it until the adhesive sets. And as we only have the one bathroom we lose all facilities which isn't something I'm overly comfortable with.

Anyone know how long it takes floor tile adhesive to set?

My thoughts were to remove the existing floor covering and all tiles round the bath (to prevent potential damage to new floor if we do it afterwards). remove sink and pedestal and toilet. then put down plywood onto the existing boards, making sure they are firmly fixed first. Reinstall toilet pan onto waste pipe which gets us back in business.

then its a matter of laying the floor tiles in such a way as to leave access to the toilet which is at the back of the room. If the adhesive dries quickly then I guess just laying the tiles before bed would make the most sense although part of me thinks doing it in 2 parts to retain access to the toilet would be a good plan.

I'm sure lots of folks must do this so there must be an easier way which I'm missing. All input welcome :)

Most makes do a Rapid Set tile adhesive. Depending on the make, temperature and type of flooring you're tiling onto it can accept light foot traffic in about 3 hours. I don't know if I'd be comfortable with this. When our son tiled the utiltity and toilet floors he did it on the Saturday and we left it until the Sunday to walk on it, so I suppose around 24 hours.

Coming from a time when, during my childhood, the only toilet was outside, during the night a bucket was used. A bit primitive nowadays but sometimes needs must!

I'll probably speak to my son tonight so I can ask him what he advises his customers to do if they only have the one bathroom. I'm going out and wont be back until near 10pm so I can't promise a quick answer.

Just a quick update from me - Bruce (electrician) came round yesterday and fixed us up with a rear porch and front porch light! Yay! The rear one is great as it's got a PIR attached so comes on when we come in, but only when it's dark. I can stop being scared of bogeymen hiding in there now...! ;)
