Oh no, no, no. You can't do that! Get us lot all interested then tell us not to go. It's like taking sweeties away from a child. :rotfl:

So, of course, being one of the nosey ones I went and had a look :D . That's a lovely photo, Rosie is very sweet and it's a very cute snowman.

Looking forward to seeing your photos and reading all about your extension.

i will put it on my favourites Josepina :) Good luck with the renovation. ETA: Your doggy is lovely!

Out of interest, can anyone give me a rough estimate for the price of their extension (if you don't mind of course). Our extension will be 24ft x 10ft (why I work in feet I have no idea as I am far too young to ever be taught it!) a single storey rear extension. I have no idea how much I would have paid for this if I had contracted a builder and I am interested in how much the materials & labour should cost as I've just seen some horrendous prices on the loft conversion thread. (We are getting labour costs for free)

welcome Josepina and ukMaggie! Good to see our merry little band of DIY-ers ever increasing! :)

I don't have anything much to say, just popped on to see how you lot were doing. Today we went to John Lewis to spend some vouchers...ended up buying an internet radio, rather than anything practical such as furniture...! Great new toy though :D Also bought some housey bits such as a vase, candles etc. Tomorrow my Dad's taking us to Wickes in his big red van, to buy some doors. We're also hoping to attack the garden a bit; I'm worried that things are going to start nesting in our jungle, and then I'll feel too guilty to chop anything down!

Jamtart - we got our burglar alarm fitted at cost (free labour) - it is a wired one and cost £300 +VAT. Don't know any more about it but will try and remember to ask Bruce.

    Our single story extension cost £28k for 5M x 4.5M for :-
2 walls (it is filling in the space next to a previous extension and the back of the house).
A huge roof covering the new build and zooming up and over the existing two story flatroof extension, this gives us a ceiling in the kitchen going from 2M up to 5M.
Build new dormer window/roof around existing one & remove old one from inside to create bigger space for bathroom & Ensuite.

Price included all materials& labour to build a finished "shell" e.g. plaster finish but no kitchen or sanitaryware.

We actually parted company with the builder just before the walls were plasterboarded, so we have almost finished it ourselves with the £5K we didn't pay them.

Note - we had two other quotes for the same work £60K & £98K!!!

    Hope this helps.

Evening All, I've finally updated my blog, here! No earth-shattering excitement, but a few pics and a bit of an update.
At least we actually did some house stuff this weekend, for once! Mostly in the garden, and in the shops, spending lots of money, but house stuff all the same. I was so pleased we finally bought some curtains, but made the schoolgirl error of buying the wrong size curtains...:o silly me.
Finally bought the doors - they didn't have our first choice in the size we needed (they do 27" and we need 30"), but we bought these ones instead, which we're happy with. Now we need to buy some door knobs, but I can't get over how expensive they are - any suggestions?

    :T

Are there supposed to be 4 pictures of Chester, I can only see one and three boxes with red Xs.

Oops. I take it they're the ones in the photo. Are they eyelet ones? Hopefully they'll take those back no problem but wont if you've had to draw up tape.

What are you looking for? Do you want knobs or levers? We bought these (I've blown the picture up so you can see properly - that's the bathroom so there's also a privacy lock) from one of the suppliers our builder uses. Normal price was £12.99 I think and we got a discount as we bought on the builder's account, they look nice and are a good weight too, not flimsy. Is there anything in Wickes - don't forget the CAT09 code for 15% discount if you order online.

Well we are *still* painting the hall, stairs and landing !

FINALLY the eleventy million spindles are glossed as are the 13 doors.

Hubby now has to gloss the landing window and is currently emulsioning the ceilings then we can emulsion.

Once the H,S,L is finnished we have decided the ensuite bathroom is the next task.

Needs a new toilet and sink and then all tiles ripping off and re-tiling as well as the shower installing.

Much bigger job than decorating the HSL:pBUT will give us more satisfaction - the reason the painting has taken so long is there is no real obvious progress and it gets demoralising.
It's not paranoia if they really are after you.
