First-time house renovation

PS. Where's Maggie? What's happening in Liverpool?
Hi TM, just been very weary - took the deccies down off the tree on the 6th, consequently stood for too long and am paying for it since! Not been to the house since Jan 3rd as it's too slippery for me to get as far as the car. We've had a leak at the caravan, so OH is driving to Abersoch today to find out more, but our landlord said it was the stopcock blew off. We're just hoping the central heating frost setting has kicked in inside the van, but landlord said the power was off for a while (lightening hit a power line I think) so it probably needed re-setting after the power loss - wish the so and so had let us know when it happened! It'll cost an arm and a leg to fix if it's frozen up.
Here's the pics of the garden the other day.
We're still running the hired dehumidifier, but it's taking out a bit less now, so we'll probably replace it with our own one (OH fetching from caravan today) and just move it from room to room each visit. No sign of condensation on any of the windows anyway.
OH is worrying about the house, I'm planning the garden. :j Have chosen the potting shed I want to get, not sure what size though.
Got a lot of bird food delivered 2 days ago (was surprised to see the courier as the buses were off) so OH took sunflower hearts to put in our squirrel resistant feeder (prezzzie from the girls) yesterday. He went on foot as wasn't sure how bad the road would be, so he didn't take the other feeders and food with him.
The gas board is still working outside the house. They've filled in the holes outside the other half of our house, and have dug a new hole next door on the other side, right next to the hole they dug just before we completed. Heaven only knows how long it's going to take to sort it out. Next door is parking on our drive at the mo since they can't get onto theirs. Suspect it's just really old pipes, 1956, and they just all need replacing, but fat chance of that happening.
Having another day in bed under a duck down and feather quilt - am fully dressed (except for shoes) with 2 hot water bottles and I'm still cold! Might get up later and light the coal fire and see if I can get the living room warmed up. I've even put on the extra radiator in our bedroom - first time in about 5 or 6 years I think. Not exactly money saving, but better than freezing!
Hope TD is keeping nice and cosy, and you too of course!
Welcome to lollol, commiserations to latecomer, and the rest of you I WANT TO SEE MORE PHOTOS! (rant over)

More photos coming up very soon with our bathroom! Your garden is LOVELY
Does anyone have any comment about shower screens?
After something that looks good and comes out a fair distance so water doesn't fly all over the shop! The panelled slidy screens don't look so great IMO. Any other thoughts/recommendations?!0 -

Sorry Suiside, never had a shower screen, only ever a cubicle. But from those used on holiday etc., I would say the plastic type are horrible, toughened glass is so much nicer and to stop any splashes escaping as big as is practical in your bathroom.
Maggie - your garden is lovely. I can feel your excitement! Nice potting shed too. Hope the leak at the caravan isn't too serious. Hope you feel better soon. I have an electric underblanket that can stay on all the time, I really feel the cold and have flannelette sheets as well as the blanket on all night and it keeps me toasty warm. I don't sleep well at the best of times but I'd never sleep if I was cold.
TD is feeling the cold, for the first time ever he's the one who wants the heating turned up and he now says, after 41 years married, that he understands how I've always felt (I've always been cold and had thick jumpers on when he's in shirt sleeves), and for the first time ever I'm the one who's saying "Do you really need the heating up this high?". Quite funny really :rotfl: .
Had a phone call from the sofa man, he's stuck on someone's drive in Wrexham and can't get off(perhaps it's sloping down to the house and he can't get back up), also says he wont be able to get over the mountains to us and will re-schedule. Bet we'll have to battle again when they say between 7am and 9am.

Hi Suiside
We bought that one and I'm not overly happy with it.. the sliding mechanism isn't as smooth as I would have liked and we've already broken one! The fittings look quite cheap really, we got it from Littlewoods online (with codes i managed to get it for about £80) and they replaced it no problem but I'd avoid if I were you. We only went for it due to the tight space in our bathroom so if you can get away with one panel i'd definitely advise to do so. Also cleaning inside the bit where the two panels overlap is a bit of a pain!
Looks quite nice once fitted though, you just have to be a bit careful when sliding it open and close
Here's ours closed:

Battle away IMO TM!
I stuck a link up above of what I was thinking, it doesn't have the unsightly muliple panels to it.......0 -

Brilliant, thanks for the help/advise. Our bathroom too is extremely small so a sliding one is necessary. It's about 2mx2m max! Do you know what I mean about the ones with multiple panels? Does your one allow you to fold back to the wall when you're in the bath, i.e. looking at the photo swinging it to the left?!0 -

You're welcome
Do you mean the consertina type ones, about 4 or 5 panels that fold onto each other? The old bathroom had that but I'm not too keen on them, I dont think they look as nice and i think cleaning them is a hassle too!
Yes, it can swing both ways, into the bath and out as well which is quite handy! Especially for cleaning. It's also quite good as you can put it on either side of the bath.0 -
Yes, I mean the concertina ones! Not sure what else is available that isn't rediculously expensive!
The swinging would be very handy. Ours will be mounted on the opposite side to yours.
Did you ponder any others in the process of buying yours that may be better than yours?0 -

I know, shower screens are very pricy!!
I tried to find the smallest one panel screen but it was very difficult and think it probably wouldn't have been much use having it as shower spray would be everywhere!
I did look at this little gadget... http://www.bathroommarquee.co.uk/out8.php
I actually saw it in action at the Grand Designs show last year and it's pretty cool, very tidy when stored away, bit I wasn't keen on the look when open. What do you think to it? You may be able to find it cheaper on ebay?0
