The blinds are just basic ordinary blinds, we put this up before the lights became an issue.

In which case do try the black out blinds. They make a HUGE difference, for very little cost. We have them in all our bedrooms, as I hate being woken by any amount of light (especially sunlight). Ikea sells them too.

The other thing to remember is that unless you've been round the 'back' of Cabot Circus, you will wonder what Paparika is going on about. The new bit is triangular, with this MASSIVE car park beyond that. There is, honestly, just the width of a narrow formerly residential road between this massive building site (it still is at the back) and residential housing.

The lights from the car park are spectacular, bright blue ramps etc, but I wouldn't want them opposite my house.

And actually, being partially deaf can make you more sensitive to loud noise. there's a technical term for it which escapes me right now, but when I'm walking past pneumatic drills it's my deaf ear I have to cover up or I think my head's going to explode.

I'm sorry I don't know more about the rules. I would get the blackout blinds, though ...

    Are you local savvy?

Your right about it, it's not nice to have outside your home

For the noise, you could get a quote from the council and private firms to triple glaze your windows.

If it bothered me that much I'd consider buying them just to prevent having to move.

I know it's council and all the rest of it, but that doesn't mean you can't fork out a few quid for a peaceful life. You wouldn't think twice about buying a nice new carpet to run your toes through, whereas a window to give you a peaceful night seems to be out of the question. Same with the blinds.

Yes, it's annoying, but you need this resolved now. Not when the slow fannies get round to doing anything, which might be 2-3 years.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Gosh....I'm feeling bad about planning to go there now. :( (The advertising has been immense but strangely shabby IMO). I've gone to some effort arranging to meet people who I know will spend too -vicarious shopping is better for the soul than real shopping I hope.

I cannot understand why the lighting issue is not persuable under the guise of energy saving. I understand the health and safety issue of leaving lowlevellighting in a car park on, but not blazing. The world is, rightly, asking consumers to minimise our expenditure on wasting energy, and yet thi must be a significant energy use?

Good luck. How about trying Radio Bristol to do a report on the noise?

No do go and enjoy, just be quiet on the way back to your car in the car park if you go back at night please ;)

We've been on the local news Friday night and the local evening post on Saturday, local radio stations have interviewed us a few months back, seems if it's not on their doorstep so don't worry about it, and I've called environmental health, who haven't got back to me within the 2 days they said they would, i went to ring them this afternoon to find that the builders outside have cut through the phone line and gone off home  (2nd time this week) - i hope no one next door in the mature peoples homes needs to call for an ambulance, they have no phone lines either.

Funny that i still have my tinternet, just no phone line.

    Hi there Paparika,

I think that whatever you do you & your neighbours need to o en masse as lots are voices are better than just one. After all if it's that bad, they must be suffering too.

As regards blackout blinds my daughter has them in her room and whilst they are ok they don't block out all the light as it still seeps in through thte sides.

What one of my more ingenious friends has done is bought slightly too big blinds, cut them to fit the frame of the window and applied sticky velcro to bothe the blind & the window frame, this means that you can take them down completely during the day and that they fit snuggly & don't let any light in at all! :T

I've Googled for them and came up with this link from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velcro-Blackout-complete-darkness-1-35m/dp/B001ASM1B2 so that you can see what I mean.

    Good luck with your fight!

PS I livein Somerset & am totally aware of what a monstrosity Cabot's Circus is. I did wonder why they left your flats up when they should've built new homes somewhere and given you the opportunity to move (after all what did they do with your neighbours who's towers were demolished??)

I work in St Pauls. Walked in from there the first day it was open, got myself the wrong side of Bond Street because I went to Staples first, and was directed practically all the way down to the Bristol Evening Post roundabout!

Didn't go into any shops, but did ask one of the management if they intended to have this awful boom-de-boom-de-boom noise going on every day, and was assured it was just for the opening. I'm sure I'm not the only Grumpy Old Person who dislikes relentless muzak ...

Paparika might not mind so much if the light from the car park was directed into the car park, but it's like the Starship Enterprise at night! Very striking ...

Don't worry, nothing would induce me to pay £3 for 2 hours parking! :rotfl: Especially not when I know where to park for free and walk in. Just as long as they don't introduce some brainless residents parking scheme around work!

Now is that Radio Bristol? There is also a community station based in St Pauls which might be more sympathetic to your plight. Let me know if you need help tracking it down.

    with you!

Maybe t'internet comes in through a different set of wires / cable etc. But be grateful it does, whatever the explanation. You can email Environmental Health, can't you? cc your local councillors ...
