  • Hi all
Had a good weekend being an OS and cooking everything from scratch rather than using frozen Aunt Bessies for everything. I used to do it but got lazy over the last few years. Kids loved helping out too so it was a good Sunday.

    Hi,

I'm at w*rk on lunch so haven't caught up on thread - am hoping to spend 10 mins on grass in sunshine quick unpicking my DD's stitching on dance fleece.

I made a weeks worth of s/wiches this morning and shoved them in the freezer. The meal plan I made on Sat is being adapted slightly as the mince I had had gone off so we didn't do cottage pie yesterday. I'll grab some when I've got time. Cheesy mash for DD's tea and an early night cos I'm off out to alpha where we get fed and watered :D

Hope everyone's having a great day (((HUGS))) xxx

  • Hello all, I am relatively new to this thread, well to posting in it anyway so thought I would say hi. I have been trawling these forums for ages, and have been so inspired that I am turning into a total frugal OSer. Today I have...

Baked some ginger flapjacks, with a base of leftover cheerios that kids wont eat,

Baked a pear and peach cake (in the oven at the moment and smells scrumptious) made with silly priced pears and peaches from tesco.

Been out for a walk and come back laden with half a dozen walnuts, 4 lovely windfall apples, a dozen crab apples and a dozen hazlenuts that the squirrels must have dropped, as there are none on the trees anymore, and I have picked a dozen or so greengages.

The only downside to today so far, is that on coming back to my pc, I found a cold cuppa T waiting for me! I do it all the time. Get inspired to do something, then forget what I was actually doing at the time I got inspired/distracted!

I have also done a proper price check of my kids packed lunches and am looking for ways of making them cheaper and more filling and nutritious (have been reading lots of lunch threads too).

I have cleaned the bath and sinks with bicarb, water and an ECloth.

AND..... its only just gone 1pm! Time for a nap me thinks!!

I am hoping to be a more regular poster on here - if you will have me!:o
If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!

Afternoon gang, hope this finds you all happy, warm and well. Have read the thread but as my head is all over the place I am sure that I WILL miss important things. If I do PLEASE accept my apologies-no offence intended. Am not sleeping very well and have the attention span of a gnat.:o
I have a list of things to do that would make a statue cry:eek: . Anyway, they will either get done or not:rotfl: .
I have an interview tomorrow and that is rather worrying me too._pale_ _pale_ _pale_ Ages ago I applied for another job and didn't get an interview but got the usual "keep your name on file" stuff well I was contacted a few weeks ago and asked to apply for this job:eek: . I did and tomorrow.........................  I have the interview. Now,I have to say that a)I am nervous is a HUGE understatement b) I have NO IDEA why I am going!!!!!!!! c)I have to do a TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    d) I am now thinking teaching wasn't/isn't all THAT bad:confused::confused: (NOT a good sign-ever!:p
It is in a field(no, not THAT kind of field-wish it was:rotfl: )that I have NO experience at all and that worries me-a lot. BUT.....It IS very decent money with various other interesting points(would have some staff AND a bit of travel:j etc) So I will give it a go. Ironically, there is a FANTASTIC sounding job with the same authority for a researcher in the area that I did my degree in but I can't get on to the site (their website is currently down) and the closing date is tomorrow so who knows. I am fairly confident that I have no chance tomorrow-am not being negative just realistic as I have NO background at all. But it will be a good experience for me as the vast majority of my interviews either been for teaching posts or academic interviews. I will give it a decent go honest.
All in all I have a very interesting week- got tomorrow to get through; the 11+ is looming followed by the various entrance exams. Then, Saturday sees the first of the LEVEL 42 CONCERTS. They have just kind of loomed up. So much has happened since I bought the tickets in Feb. There are an awful lot and money is slightly tight at the mo so not entirely sure what is going to happen. I also need to see how much it will cost to stay in Ipswich and how to get to Brighton from Ipswich the next day mind you those are right at the end of the tour Next week its Liverpool, Leicester, Birmingham,Sheffield. :o:o Sorry for rambling on for so long(distracting myself)
Pen Pin!! hope the hospital went well.
Taplady My thoughts are with you.
MeanMarie ((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))am praying for you all.
Candygirl hugs to you and your DD
Sybil I lose things ALL the time:rotfl:
Smokey Am thinking of you. You are doing an amazing job. You are a wonderful lady.
AUSSIELASS hope you feel tons better soon.
Sorry i have missed out so many. No offence intended.
Am off to do stuff(honest) Hugs to all. Have a great afternoon. Ann xxxx

Hi Nimbo, Sassy & Craving :hello:

Pah! it's started raining again :(

Having struggled to open the drawers on my little freezer, I've decided to do the decent thing and defrost it. Somehow I don't think a packet of Quorn chicken style pieces, with a use by date of October 06 are ever going to get eaten
Oh well, everything is now in the chest freezer, so I might get round to doing a list of what's in there and it might get eaten.
Tea is prepped and in My Mate Moski, fish hot pot, using YS smoked hadock from Asda, a real bargain

Off now, got to go to the bank and call in at work for 10 minutes.

    Hi to CravingSaving :hello:

Just jump right in and we'll soon have you as obsessed as we are!!!!!!!

The cooked brekkie in the Remoska was fantastic and I have some dough in the breadmaker so will try French sticks in the Remoska later.

Might put some chopped turkey, onions, peppers, mushrooms and sliced potato in the moskie for tea and see how that turns out.

DH told me that youngest DD (14) has already told him that I was "softening him up" to getting it, so I burst out laughing and reminded him that I had already told him I wanted to save up to buy it and why!!!!

  • :D Good afternoon chums ,
I had the most great week-end away this week. Everything went like clockwork I caught all the connecting trains, and arrived in Manchester at 1.45 on Friday afternoon to be met by my nephew.
I had never been to Manchester, and like most southerners it was not what I was expecting. It was clean and bright in the shops, and nice wide roads and lots of grasss and trees. It's so silly as you get a mindset about a place. My friend assured me that it rains constantly (rubbish) we had glorious weather for the whole week-end.That the people were grumpy and bad tempered ,again total rubbish I was met with nothing but kindness and civility.
My nephew is a vicar in Tottington, and he seems to be a very popular chap as his phone never stopped ringing, and there seemed to be a contant stream of people at the door.
On Saturday afternoon we went to Wythenshaw to The Forum where his youngest little lad Freddie was playing a a pipe band there, and it was fantastic. He has two lads Harry and Freddie, and they were so good at looking after Aisleen and I and kept making us tea and asking if we needed anything. Harry is 12 and Freddie is 9 and they are a credit to their Mum and dad Bless him the little guy is only 9, but he was so good with all the other pipers there. we stopped for a cuppa and a sandwich and even the lass on the till was friendly and helpful.
On Sunday morning we went to church, and it was packed out. What a smashing lot of folk live there. Everyone kept coming up afterwards and asking to meet both me and my cousin Aisleen, who had travelled around the world from Toowooba in Queensland to visit us both. Apparently for the last year because of my cancer they have been mentioning me in their prayers everynight ,and as Mr T says every little helps as I am still alive and kicking
Aisleen is a great old lady who at 88, was as sharp as a tack and great fun. Hughie(my nephew) bless him kept whizzing in and out between a couple of Christenings to ensure that we were o.k, and we had a lovely lunch then in the afternoon he brought us both back down to London. He dropped me off as my sis-in-laws last night as he was taking Aisleen onwards to his pals house for the night. He is showing her the sights of London today. Then tomorrow he is driving he down to Oxfordshire so she can meet his other brother who lives there.
I will definitely visit Manchester again as it seems such a lively and friendly place. What lovely warm-hearted people there are there. All in all a fantastic week-end that I wouldn't have missed for the world.
Hughie also gave me lots of genealogy info. that I was after and on Saturday I sat and watched a bit of 8mm film that had been put onto a DVD of my late Mum and her sister, very weird seeing something like that after over 50 years

Tonight I am off to start my Uni course on The Victorian Age I am looking forward to that.Tomorrow I think I will put my feet up and have a rest as the past couple of days have been a bit busy.<<hugs >> to those who need them and a big :D to the rest of you.
Cheers everyone from a very happy but 'cream-crackered'
    JackieO xx :D:D
  • Back safe and sound. Its 1 of 4 visits this week, but its Friday I'm worried about. Today they only took 8 viles of blood:eek:      ...it also wouldnt stop bleeding so had to wait 20 mins for it to stop. The nurse was a little worried and got me a cup of sweet tea:D ...Im in alot of pain today and I think she could see that.

Thanks for all the well wishes though.

My sister....well where do I start:confused: ....the last 2 times we have met this new BF, OH has felt very uncomfortable with him. He keeps telling my sister that he really likes OH and gets on well with him/thinks he's great etc. Her BF made lots of inappropriate comments to OH.....how about saving water and having a shower together:eek:   .....big boy:eek:   ......lovely big blue eyes:eek:    ......nice !!!!!   and a few more. Then OH was in the shower upstairs, I was in lounge and all I heard was OH tell him to F**k Off and her BF shout out "I can see why Mrs PP married you!!!!" I have never known OH to dress and get downstairs so quickly:rotfl: ....then sister asked if OH could look at her new laptop for him to find alot of naked muscle guy pictures on there in a file:confused: Later on that evening, my sister had had a little too much to drink and she told me that a couple of weeks ago her and BF were having an intimate moment until she realised that he was wearing her knickers:eek:    ....he just said it was a joke and she believed him. All his comments are always in jest, but something is very weird here. We are not prude and have alot of gay friends but my sister thinks its just funny.

Nothing I can do about it, but I thin she is going to get hurt. He is still wasting all her money in fags and booze and anything else he wants.......but he is now contributing £50pw....that dont even cover his fags!!!

Rant and comedy show now over:D

Welcome Nimbo and CravingSaving. You'll enjoy it here!

RedRuby - (((hugs))) to your nephew. I was only thinking about him the other day.

Moneysavingdiva - thanks for asking your MIL for the recipe!

Well, I've had a disorganised sort of morning. I managed to get the ironing finished but don't feel as if I have done much else, even though I haven't sat down! On days like these I do a lot of walking round in circles!

While I was ironing I went to watch something I had Sky-plussed and it seems they have unsubscribed me. I altered the date my direct debit was collected so I'm hoping that's where they've made the mistake. I tried to phone them, couldn't find a non-0870 number and, after all the options, was told I was in a queue that was 36 minutes long! I will try and phone after dinner tonight.

The good news is that my car, as ever, sailed straight through the MOT! It is such a reliable car despite being almost twelve years old. I was dreading it because of the cost of putting anything right; I'm sure it will fail one year but I'm glad it wasn't this one!

Well, I shall be collecting the grandchildren later so I hope the sun keeps shining.

I think I missed page two of the thread today so I hope I haven't missed any news. I'll check later.

Think I'l go and have a cuppa now.

    See you later.
