  • Morrison's has the most offers provided you eat loads of pies cakes and snack food,But their fish counter is poorly manned . they need a bell, so I end up buying pre packed fish and often wonder if that maybe makes more profit for the store.[And yes I have complained in the past] Their cafe, selling quite good food, could often do with a better clean as it is a bit dusty, but cant have too much wrong with it as we go there about once a week along with a huge slice of our local population . Their car park being on a slope is ghastly and difficult for the elderly hauling trolleys but the staff, both inside and outside the store are almost all good but fishing about for a quid for the trolley can be a real nuisance. They stock only British meat and are increasing their organic shelves.:T
The £3 take away was fine according to the ones im my clan who had it and they said it fed three and those 50 p bargains take some beating
We also use Tesco and Sainsburys all being close to us

try making a list then you wouldnt forget things , i usually sit down the night before i do the shopping and plan the weeks meals based on what i have in so not only do i not waste time wandering around the shop but i also spend a lot less.

After reading this thread I decided to give Morrisons a try, haven't shopped there in about 10 years! didn't even know that there was one under 10mins away. Absolutely LOVED the layout, very civilised. Way too many tempting cakes in there tho! had to muscle up lots of willpower. Got the £3.00 curry meal which we had (3 of us) lastnight.. very nice, very similiar to Asda's currypot.

Personally, I found Morrisons to be a little bit dearer than Asda and Tesco with not very many price reductions or bogofs. Will definately go back tho just for the nice layout.
  • Went into Morrisons yesterday afternoon and every other person had a curry meal ( or two ) in their trolley. Had one last night and really enjoyed it ,Could not quite manage to eat it all as portions are very generous.

Also went to Morrisons yesterday, bought one each of the currys, had the tikka masala/korma last night, excellent. Would definately buy one at full price. Looking forward to the others.
  • Until recently I wouldn't go anywhere near Morrisons as I thought that the quality of own brand food wasn't as good as Sainsburys, M&S and Tesco. However, I popped in a month or so ago for milk and was surprised at how many offers were on and how cheap some products were in comparison to other shops so gave a few own brand items a try and was pleasantly surprised.
I've started shopping there since and have to say I'm saving a fortune, I can find plenty of inexpensive healthy food (it's not all cakes and pies as it sometimes looks when you first walk in), and there's some really good bargains too!
    :D

which store is this one, as our store is an ex safeway one, and it is nothing like what u are describing, Dave

Ours is Totton, just outside of Southampton. They have just 'refurbished' it. (Made it bigger). But still the same problems - they still run out of staples. Milk is particularly bad. Fish still stinks. They are still loading hot pies into plastic bags and putting them on display to cool down. The staff are surly - I've only ever seen one staff member smile.

Customer service? Don't make me laugh. They have a section where they sell ends of line or damaged goods. By chance I noticed that they had 3 single cans of Guinness there from a split pack. Not one had a price tag on it. I asked the bloke on the drinks aisle (who was filling the shelves and was apparently an assistant manager) if he could price one for me - pointing out that it was in the 'reduced' section and showing him the 3 cans. His response was that he'd have to price each separate can at the price for a 4 pack! There were other beers there priced per can where they'd obviously come from damaged packs. Perhaps he was just stupid.

They sell bread flour. Or rather, they sometimes sell bread flour. I make my own and buy a couple of bags each week If I'm in Morrisons I'll try and pick some up because it's easier to get it home from there. Except the last time they had their own brand was before Christmas and the other brands they sell are at least 50% more exensive. Even their own is more expensive than Tescos or Lidl.

I've lost count of the number of people who've asked me to help them get things off the top shelves - I'm 6 ft tall and I have to reach up.

The aisles are narrow and claustophobic. The shop layout would best be described as dire. I've seen 'fresh' meat on display that was so dark I'm surprised it didn't leap off the shelf and attack someone. Their veg and fruit area is tiny. Even the nearest Sainsbury's, which is a smaller floor area, has a larger fruit and veg area. And not only is it a small area but it's a very poor selection.

They change the range of bread that they sell almost weekly - for no reason that I can see. And they sell iced buns with fruit in! Is that a Northern thing? Because I can't see it in ANY other shop - supermarket or baker.

My first job, 40 odd years ago, was on the shop floor at a Sainsbury's supermarket. I can honestly say that the Sainsburys then was 100% better than Morrisons is now.

Morrisons are highly underrated, most stores ive been to (newcastle, gateshead, darlington) are big, cheap, lovely salad bars and helpful staff.
