So I'm stretching the truth saying I've bought old spot sausages?0 -
to win an argument yes, you are clearly are under the impression you know a lot with regards retail and consumer rights etc including the quality of such things as food , any one with an ounce of sense knows any food supplied by a supermarket is OK , and food bought from small independent butchers farmers markets are of far better quality there is a reason the main supermarkets are cheap the food is poorer, the welfare of the animals plays a good second place and the meat etc is not as fresh that is the main bit it is not as fresh hence why the top restaurants etc and any decent chef dont pop to the supermarket for fresh meat or fish .
as stated earlier by some one the red meat is to red becouse the supermarkets play on the gulliable consumers view that is what it should look like, havent you noticed even the fruit does not smell of fruit it smells of nothing , all there sald items are treated to make them last longer on the shelf supermarkets have a lot to blame for with regards peoples health and there wish for poor food of a poor quality.0 -
ok...so im not gonna get into "supermarkets suck, my local farm shop blah blah blah etc"
BUT i love the "open door policy" of http://www.realmeat.co.uk/ (not actually that expensive in real terms ..apples to apples etc)
And locally i have http://gonalstonfarmshop.co.uk/
also reccomend https://www.redearthorganics.co.uk
bottom line is (IMHO) more about traceability....that in itself ensures quality...i dont mind paying a premium for produce that is trace-able...

I worked in food factory preparing turkey products for most of the major supermarket chains . M&S Tesco J/Sainsbury Morrisons Waitrose Asda Somerfield
I know what we were sending to them, as I did the auditing for the prodcution - and although the general quality of the meat we used was pretty good, alot of corners were cut to save on waste - meet targets etc.
The supermarkets would not even be aware of quality issues - even though we gave them regular audit reports -
Why? because we lied, or rather those in charge lied, and If I refused to falsify check sheets then they would be changed for me after I finsihed shift. (so I refused to do the job anymore)
so I prefer to buy from a local butchers, as you can actually see the stuff being cut in front of you - and if you know the butcher - you knwo where they are sourcing it from too.
btw the greem "haze" you can sometimes see on the meat surface is usually nothing to worry about -Im not talking about obviously rancid meat here . but on fresh joints you may be able to see a very faint green sheen on some cuts if caught in the light properly.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

HTH.
I just thought of:when you said that.
I don't know why you have to turn this into yet another internet debate between meat eaters and vegetarians and vegans. I choose to eat meat and will continue doing so, as do others.
PS: I'm wondering how many of you who are saying how nasty supermarket meat is, still buy it from there.0 -
Besides which Meat isnt murder, its the act of killing that is classed as murder:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
